[Todd makes contact with John after he returns to Llanview after being held prisoner]
Todd: Thanks for coming, lieutenant.
John: Who are you, and what do you want?
Todd: I'm Todd Manning.
John: You're Todd Manning?
Todd: Yes. I am. The other guy who's running around town pretending to be me is a fake, and he has my wife and my children and my money and my company, and I have nothing.


John: Look. I know you've had a rough time. People only end up down at the docks when they've run out of luck. All right. It's a tough place, new guy. You don't watch your back, bad things happen.
Todd: Okay. Look. I wasn't threatened by a guy with a pitching wedge. I got shot.


[John has brought Todd to his apartment for safekeeping]
Todd: I know a lot has probably changed in the eight years I've been gone, but I'm reasonably certain this isn't the Llanview Police Department.
John: Yeah. Someone is trying to kill you, man. I'm not gonna take any chances taking you into the station, all right? You're gonna lie low. I don't want anyone seeing your face until I figure all this out.
Todd: Okay. I know you just saved my life, and I'm very grateful, and you're very attractive, but maybe I'm just vulnerable because of the near-death experience, but you should know that I generally don't go home to a gentleman's apartment until after the third date or so, you know, unless he spends a lot on dinner.
John: To be fair, you're not really my type.


[Todd threatens "Todd"/Victor with a gun until John stops him]
Todd: Get out of the way, McBain. You're in the way. Get out of the way.
John: Hey, you shoot him, you shoot me, you won't ever get your life back.
"Todd"/Victor: I'm sorry. Get his life back? Do you actually believe that this fraud is me, John?
John: (to Todd) Hey, forget about him, all right? Listen, if you are who you say you are, you get everything back, all right? So let's just--let's find out the truth. But if you kill him, all you're gonna get is a prison cell, and let me tell you something. This time it's gonna be a hell of a lot longer than eight years.
Todd: So he just gets away with it?
John: No, but don't tell me that you fought this hard to survive to get back here to your family just to lose them all over again. You didn't do that, did you? Come on, man. Put the gun down.


John: We are looking at every suspect in this murder.
Todd: Really? 'Cause it kind of feels like you're only looking at me.
