Todd Threatens to Take Starr Away From Blair

Blair enters her room at the Buchanan mansion and finds Todd sitting at her dressing table, messing around with her makeup and various other knick-knacks.

Blair: What are you doing now??
Todd: I'm going through your stuff.
Blair: Ugh. So you're looking for a foundation to cover up your scar?
Todd: I took care of the, uh, red-haired lady.
Blair: You didn't.
Todd: Yeah. I killed her.
Blair: What'd you do to her, Todd?
Todd: I had a conversation with her.

Todd gets up from the chair and faces Blair defiantly.

Todd: It was direct. It was to the point. It was frank, even. She won't be bothering you anymore.

With that, Todd turns and goes out the door. Blair, frustrated, chases after him.

Blair: Todd, wait!!

When the scene returns, Blair is following Todd back into the bedroom.

Blair: Todd, wait. What did you really do to Skye?
Todd: Nothing. I just talked to her.
Blair: You talked to her and now she's just going to leave Max alone?
Todd: Yes, Max. You. Starr.
Blair: What'd you say to her?
Todd: Why do you care?
Blair: I just want to know! Tell me!

Todd looks at Blair and smiles proudly.

Todd: I spooked her.
Blair: She doesn't spook, Todd.
Todd: Everybody spooks! Why not her?
Blair: I locked her in a wine cellar. She's a lush. She never touched a drop. I shoved her head in a toilet. She came up fighting!
Todd: Kid stuff. Look, you really want to scare somebody, you have -- fear is like a time bomb, right? You gotta -- you gotta set it up and then just let it tick, tick, tick, tick, tick.
Blair: Oh, and you say I'm such a bad influence on our daughter?
Todd: Yeah, well, like you I could say that I did it for Starr.
Blair: Well, great, you did it for Starr. You dealt with Skye. Now when are you leavin', okay??
Todd: I'm not leaving, Blair. So now I'll be taking custody of Starr.
Blair: (outraged) Over my dead body!!

Todd and Blair glare at each other.

--end scene--

Blair goes over to the bedroom door and opens it.

Blair: Out, Todd. Now.
Todd: No. Why do you have such a problem discussing the best interests of my little girl?
Blair: I don't have a problem discussing it. She stays here. End of discussion.
Todd: I'm not talking about taking her away from you forever.
Blair: I don't care what you're talking about! I don't know what you do from one minute to the next -- neither do you!
Todd: Life is interesting.
Blair: Yeah, for you it is! You're on the run from the cops. You don't have a home, you don't have a job!
Todd: Yeah, I was thinking about getting the old homestead back.

Blair closes the door and gives Todd a curious look.

Blair: "The old homestead"?
Todd: Yeah, the penthouse. I like looking down on Llanview from up there.
Blair: You LOVE looking down on Llanview. Roseanne owns it now, Todd.
Todd: Yeah? So what?
Blair: So I think she might like living there now.
Todd: (ignoring Blair) I think I'll get my newspaper back, too.
Blair: (fake laughter) Well, let me tell you something about THAT one, see, Kelly, Asa and I might have something to say about that one, huh?
Todd: If I got my job back and I got the house, then I could show the court that I'm really a good example for Starr.
Blair: What did you do, Todd? Did you just pick up some book that says "How to Look Respectable When You're Not Even Close," huh?
Todd: Did you write the book?
Blair: I'm telling you right now, if you said anything to Starr, I swear to you, don't you dare -- don't you dare try to manipulate her!
Todd: Why not?
Blair: Because you will never, ever see her again, you got that?
Todd: Don't you threaten me.
Blair: You walk out of her life for months! I had to make up stories so she doesn't know that her daddy still loves her!
Todd: Hey, I'm straight with her, which is more than you can do!
Blair: I'm a good mother!
Todd: No, you're not providing a stable environment for my little girl! You're providing -- you -- you've got some kind of revenge plotted against Max and she knows about it and it scares her!
Blair: What did you tell her??
Todd: Nothing! Look, Blair, it was fine, you know, back when you wanted to provide some kind of a dream, you -- you wanted all the money and you wanted a white picket fence to keep the big, bad world out, and you -- that was fine, I figured that's what a kid needs, a kid needs a family, a kid needs fun.
Blair: We have fun!
Todd: No, YOU have fun! You play games, you play -- you play musical beds, you play "Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire"!
Blair: Okay, you know what, fine, all right, I'm guilty, Todd! I do what I have to do, you got that??
Todd: You do what you have to do for money.
Blair: Yes, I do! For Starr! And I'm going to teach her that all men are liars and cheats. And I'm gonna make absolutely sure that she never, EVER has to depend on another man as long as she lives.
Todd: No, not like you.
Blair: Oh, you're damn straight about that!

--end scene--

Todd: Let me get this straight, you think you're some kind of a shining example for Starr because you don't depend on men for money? You married Asa for money and then you left him for dead!
Blair: Oh, you know what, that's right, come on, let's talk about our love lives, hmm? What about your little youthful indiscretion as a RAPIST? Does that count?

Before Todd can answer, there's a knock at the door -- it's Kelly, asking if Max is in. Todd shoots Blair a look and ducks through another door (out into another hallway?). Once he's gone, Blair receives Kelly.

Kelly: Where's Max?
Blair: I don't know.
Kelly: He was supposed to meet Daniel Faulkner at Crossroads, right?
Blair: I don't know. Maybe. What's going on?
Kelly: Somebody is getting shot tonight.
Blair: What are you talking about??

But Kelly ignores Blair and rushes off somewhere in a hurry. Todd pops back out of his hiding place and goes over to Blair's side, excited by what he's overheard.

Todd: Ooh!
Blair: Well, what do you think she meant by that?
Todd: Well, don't look at me. I only shoot at RJ.
Blair: Oh, I don't know...maybe she's talking about some stupid story she's working on.
Todd: Yeah, but look at it this way. See, if Max does get himself shot, you stand to make a lot of money.
Blair: You're disgusting!

--end scene--

Blair stands by the open doorway and gestures for Todd to leave.

Blair: Get out, Todd! I mean it!
Todd: After all this, you still care about Max.
Blair: No, I don't care about Max! I care about you leaving right now!
Todd: (turning to leave) We'll discuss Starr's custody after I've spoken with my lawyer.
Blair: Just get out!

Blair slams the door after Todd and rushes over to the phonebook to look for the number to Crossroads so she can check on Max.
