A Furious Kelly Confronts T&B

A few days have passed since Blair tricked an oblivious Kelly into signing over her shares of The Sun to Todd. Now, Kelly (who has been recovering from a gunshot wound) is back at work and eager to get into her office. So she's surprised to find Todd there, standing on a chair, hanging a huge "WELCOME BACK TODD" banner on the wall behind her (now his) desk.

Kelly: Uh, hi. What are you doing here?
Todd: You want the good news or the bad news?
Kelly: Would you please get off my chair?

Todd gets off of the chair.

Todd: Okay, well, the good news is that there's a surprise party for the new publisher. But the bad news is, you're not invited.
Kelly: Get out of my office.

Todd picks up a nearby picture frame and hands it to Kelly.

Todd: You're soiling my carpet.

When the scene returns, Todd is sitting at his desk, showing a "Tommy Twohead" comic strip print to an unamused Kelly.

Todd: See, and then -- and then Mr. Big Egg tells Tommy Twohead that Kierkegaard had no sense of socratic irony! (he laughs loudly)
Kelly: (snatching the comic away from Todd) Get out. Get out, or I'm going to have security throw you out!
Todd: Okay, you're a little slow -- today. (slowly) Blair...gave me...her shares...of...The Sun.
Kelly: Excuse me? What, is she out of her mind?
Todd: Well, she did marry Max, don't forget.
Kelly: Todd, even if she did, I still control this paper.
Todd: You don't understand. See, I have Blair's shares, and I have your shares. Your shares plus Blair's shares equals this is now my chair.
Kelly: Oh, my shares?
Todd: And just in time, because you have completely ruined my newspaper.
Kelly: Todd, I got this paper out of the rut that you kept it in!
Todd: No, you made it dull! You made it dull as dirt! You made it all respectable! Now, you need to go away because I have a lot of work to do.
Kelly: (yelling) Todd! You're delusional! You do not have my shares, do you hear me?
Todd: Okay, don't worry about not having a place to go every day, you're welcome to come here and work as my secretary. You see, you have a lot to learn.

Todd hands Kelly the contract that Blair had her sign the other day -- the one that Blair claimed was simply to make Kelly Starr's legal guardian in case something happened to Blair. It turns out, the contract actually signed over Kelly's Sun shares to Blair, who then gave them over to Todd.

Kelly: (in disbelief) She lied to me. Oh, my God, she lied to me! That manipulative, lying little --

Blair enters the office.

Todd: Hi, Blair. She was just talking about you.

--end scene--

Kelly: Okay, Blair, you know what? Tell me that he has forced you to do this. Tell me he has threatened you or drugged you or something.
Todd: Oh, no, those are all really terrific ideas, but I can't take the credit. You see, this -- well, this was Blair's work.
Kelly: Okay, so you came to me and told me how worried you were about Starr's future, and you asked me to be her legal guardian. You had me sign those papers, and you slipped this in instead, huh? "Don't worry about all that legal stuff, Kelly. I. I've had my lawyers check it all out. That's what lawyers are for." That's good. I trusted you.

Kelly storms out of the office. Todd turns on Blair.

Todd: You let Christina Aguilera be the guardian of my daughter??

The phone rings and interrupts him.

Blair: Just answer the phone! (running after Kelly) Kelly, wait!

Todd grumpily goes to answer the phone.

Todd: (into the phone) What?? Yeah, I really want the comic on the front page. Did you say "Why?" You're fired! (he hangs up)

Meanwhile, out in the hallway, Blair has just caught up with Kelly, who is about to get in the elevator.

Blair: Kelly, Kelly, wait, please, look, I didn't have a choice! Really, I didn't! I had to do it!

Blair reaches out to grab Kelly's arm, but Kelly shrugs away.

Blair: Please!
Kelly: You know what, that's not what Todd said.
Blair: Look, just listen to me -- when has Todd ever told the truth about anything, huh?

Kelly slams her hand on the button to stop the elevator from leaving.

Kelly: When have you?
Blair: Would you just listen to me a minute? I -- I wanted revenge on Max, that's true. And I had this plan.
Kelly: This is a great plan. I'm sure that Max will be devastated that Todd's running The Sun.
Blair: No, see, you're the one that told me not to do it.
Kelly: So this is my fault?
Blair: No, I'm not saying that, no, it's not your fault. You're the one that told me that I still love Max, and I do, Kelly. I love him and I always will.
Kelly: Okay, why don't we focus on how "loving Max" meant giving me the shaft?
Blair: Well, I wanted revenge on Max, and I had this plan, and I wanted to put it into motion, and I did.
Kelly: Okay, you're breaking my heart.
Blair: Kelly, it would've destroyed Max, and it would've destroyed my chances with Max. Don't you see?
Kelly: (yelling) Hurry up! Make the connection! Todd stealing my paper!
Blair: Todd is the only one that could've stopped the plan of revenge that I put into motion.
Kelly: And The Sun was the price.
Blair: I didn't have a choice on that.
Kelly: You came to me as my cousin!
Blair: Because I had to!
Kelly: You told me that I could raise your daughter, and that you trusted me, and you were knifing me in the back!
Blair: Kelly, look, I still want you to raise Starr! I mean, if something were to happen to me, I want that!
Kelly: You know what? Somebody ought to, because you're pathetic.

At this insult, Blair's whole attitude changes.

Blair: Me??
Kelly: Yeah. You know, and it's unbelievable to me how you would think I could understand something like this -- that I could think it's okay. Well, I don't. And I will never think it's okay!
Blair: Oh, well, excuse me! Don't you get all high and mighty on me, Miss Kelly Buchanan, who married Joey while she was lusting for his brother! Let me ask you something -- that lust satisfied yet?
Kelly: (threateningly) You like playing with your life?

--end scene--

Kelly: You know, Blair? Just go. You've done enough damage.

Kelly tries to board the elevator again, but Blair stops her.

Blair: No, no, Kelly, come on. Come on, look, all I'm saying here is that -- come on, look at me -- we both know what it's like to have to make very tough, important decisions for the sake of love.
Kelly: Love? You don't know a thing about love. Everything you do is out of greed.
Blair: Come on, Kelly, that's not true and you know it. You remember when you came to me -- you were so confused about Joey and Kevin? Come on, how we talked. You remember that?
Kelly: Uh-huh.
Blair: Yeah, we talked about those men in our lives, and how crazy they were making us. I mean, we talked like, come on, like we were girlfriends again, you know. Remember?
Kelly: There should've been a bell that sounded when that happened.
Blair: No, I told you to go for Kevin and you told me to stop my revenge on Max.
Kelly: Yeah. And I don't recall advising you to do that over my dead body.
Blair: But I got Max and you got Kevin! So, Todd, he's got The Sun -- who cares, really?
Kelly: You used me. You used me. You know, I hope you are prepared when Todd blows you off now that he has The Sun.
Blair: He's not going to do that. Not if he ever wants to see his daughter again.
Kelly: Don't hold your breath. I'm sure Max would like to find out who you are before it's too late. Not that he doesn't deserve somebody like you.
Blair: (coldly) You know what? Why don't you just go away. I was wrong to ever think I could ever talk you into seeing my side of things!
Kelly: This isn't over. No. Not by a long shot.

Kelly gets into the elevator and leaves.

--end scene--

When Blair returns to Todd's office, he's throwing some of Kelly's throw pillows into the janitor's trash cart.

Blair: (holding up a CD) Okay, Todd, here's the virus. It's all set up in the system, including Asa's. Now undo it. (she hands him the CD)
Todd: No.
Blair: "No"? What do you mean "no"?
Todd: I mean "no."
Blair: We had a deal and I did my part!
Todd: No, no, the deal didn't include you making Kelly Starr's legal guardian!
Blair: Todd, look, I had to slip in those stock transfers somehow to her!
Todd: She's my daughter. Look, something happens to you, I get Starr. I'm going to get Starr anyway. Now, you make those papers that Kelly signed go away, or the whole world finds out about your revenge on Max.
Blair: (groaning in frustration) Oh, God!

After a moment, she seems to remember what just happened out in the hallway.

Blair: Doesn't matter anyway. Kelly hates me.
Todd: Well, then it should be a snap.
Blair: Why did you tell her, huh? Why did you tell her? I should've told her about the paper!
Todd: (mockingly) Oh, why? So you could spare her feelings?
Blair: No, because she's my cousin! She's the only family I got left in this damn town, and we're starting to be friends again, Todd.
Todd: You've turned into one of them! You have turned into one of the people that you used to laugh at. You're a whiner!
Blair: I am so not in the mood for this...
Todd: Guess this is what happens to you when you become Mrs. Max Buchanan.

With that, Todd tosses the CD in the trash.

Blair: No!

Blair immediately starts hunting through the trash cart to retrieve the CD, while Todd looks disgusted.

--end scene--

When the scene returns, Blair is still hunting through the trash while Todd paces around the room.

Todd: What happened to you, Blair? What happened to the Blair that wanted to torture and punish everybody in Llanview?

Blair pops up from the trash cart -- she's found the CD. She shakes it at Todd.

Blair: I don't want to be miserable anymore, Todd. I want to be happy.
Todd: You sound like a greeting card.
Blair: And I want my marriage to Max to work. I want him. Look, and I will do anything to keep him, you got that? You know, I just stole The Sun away from Kelly, and I don't want you to mess this up for me.

Todd stares at Blair, trying to read her face.

Todd: You mean it.
Blair: Like I've never meant anything in my life.
Todd: What a waste. (indicating the CD) Gimme.

Blair hands the CD over to Todd, who takes it over to his desk. He sits down and loads it into his computer.

Blair: So, you can really make this virus thing go away?
Todd: Yes, I can really make the virus thing go away. Might take me a little while, though.

Blair sits down on the desk.

Blair: Todd --
Todd: No, no, I will call you when it's done.

Blair doesn't take the hint, so Todd taps her on her back.

Todd: I will call you when it's done.
Blair: All right already.

Blair gets off the desk and leaves the room. Todd watches her go, then turns back to the computer screen.

Todd: This better be good. (he starts typing)
