Todd Runs Into Blair/Cord at the Club

Blair, Cord, CJ and Sarah have just arrived at the country club dining room. Blair and the kids are involved in a passionate debate about whether or not girls can be football players. Blair doesn't notice Todd standing at the bar nearby.

Sarah: That's not true, Blair, is it?
Blair: Oh, yes it is!
CJ: Only boys are tough enough to play football!
Blair: I wanted to be a football player when I grew up, I'm tellin' ya'!
Cord: I don't know about that boy thing, CJ. Blair's, uh, pretty tough when she wants something.
Blair: Well, that's a compliment -- I think.

Cord laughs. Nearby, Asa and Alex are having lunch, and Asa is very obviously disgusted to see Blair hanging out with Cord's kids.

Asa: I am about to get sick to my stomach, Alex.

Meanwhile, Todd, still at the bar, is staring intently at Blair when CJ spots him.

CJ: Hey, look, Sarah! There's Todd! Hey, Todd! Hi!

Blair looks up at Todd in surprise, as he smiles at CJ and Sarah and waves.

Todd approaches CJ, Sarah, Cord, and Blair.

Todd: (to CJ and Sarah) Hey, guys. I haven't seen you in awhile.
CJ: We missed you!
Todd: How was Christmas?
Sarah: The best!
CJ: We got a lot of cool presents. And Blair's were the greatest!
Todd: Yeah, Blair really knows how to give a Christmas gift, doesn't she?

Todd gives Blair a meaningful look, and Blair awkwardly tries to change the subject.

Blair: (to CJ and Sarah) You guys got some nice gifts from other people...tell Todd about those!
CJ: Daddy got us brand new ice skates!
Sarah: And Uncle David got us a kitten!
Todd: A kitten? Wow, you must have liked that, huh? You know, the best present I ever got was a little puppy that my mom gave me for my 5th birthday.

Asa and Alex are still watching, and just as disgusted as before.

Alex: I cannot believe that Cord associates with that rapist.
Asa: You think that's bad? That's not bad enough. Why is he letting his kids hang around with that witch, Blair Daimler? I mean, did you take a look over there? You'd swear to God she was Mary Poppins.
Alex: I don't know, honey, she must be doing something right. She certainly is worming her way into his life, isn't she?
Asa: I tell you something, I'm going to find a way to get her out of his life if it's the last thing I do.

Meanwhile, Cord is chatting up Todd.

Cord: So, Todd, you're working here now? You got the job? That's great.
Todd: Yeah, well, I'm cleaning up the locker room mostly. I'm teaching a few tennis lessons. It's no big deal, but at least it's a paycheck.

CJ spies Asa and Alex.

CJ: Hey, look, Sarah, Grandpa Asa's here, too!
Sarah: Come on Blair, let's go say hello!
CJ: Yeah!
Blair: You know what, you guys, you run along and say hello to Grandpa, and I'll get us a table. How's that sound to you? Good idea?
CJ: Yeah.
Cord: Yeah, I think that's a real good idea. (to Todd) Excuse us. Come on kids, let's go.

After Cord, CJ and Sarah have left, Todd takes the opportunity to talk to Blair alone.

Todd: Things seem to be going great between you and Cowboy Cord. He hasn't blown you off for his family in, what, a week?
Blair: (chuckling sarcastically) You are just full of clever remarks today, aren't you? And I especially love the one about a Christmas present. That was a riot.
Todd: Sorry. Couldn't resist.
Blair: In the future, resist.
Todd: Well, look, I guess I just got presents on the brain. Today's my birthday.

Blair is surprised to hear this, and she immediately softens.

Blair: Well, Happy Birthday.
Todd: Thanks. Oh, and don't worry about it, I don't expect any gifts.
Blair: Look, I will get you a present. I'm just not going to -- get you a present like I gave you for Christmas, that's all. And I do hope that our little secret remains a secret.
Todd: Yeah, well, I hope so, too.
Blair: What is that supposed to mean?
Todd: Well, I didn't say anything, but your big-mouth aunt -- she's been after me. I think she may be on to us.

--end scene--

When the scene returns, Todd is in the middle of telling Blair about his strange encounter with Dorian earlier.

Todd: At first, I couldn't figure out why she was so anxious to have a drink with me.
Blair: Well, she has a thing for younger men.
Todd: Yeah, from what I hear I'm a little too old for her. Anyway, after she wouldn't give up, I figured she must be after something.
Blair: Well, that's a good guess when it comes to Dorian.
Todd: Yeah, well, she caught us together at your place, so I started to figure that maybe she was getting suspicious about what's going on between us.

This ruffles Blair's feathers, and she is quick to correct Todd.

Blair: Todd, nothing is going on between us.
Todd: (frustrated and embarrassed) Look, I know that, okay. Look, I don't want to have this conversation anymore than you do. All I was doing was warning you because maybe she's going to pounce on you next. Look, I'm out of here.

Todd tries to leave, but Blair stops him.

Blair: Todd, Todd, Todd, wait a minute. Thank you for the warning. And Happy Birthday.
Todd: Whatever.

Todd leaves and Dorian, who has been watching them from a few feet away, rushes over to Blair.

Dorian: Blair? You and Todd -- you seem to be very close. One might even say "intimate."
Blair: Well, one might be wrong.
Dorian: Blair, I'm very concerned about you. Don't get defensive.
Blair: Look, I would love to sit here and have this wonderful conversation with you, Aunt Dorian, but I'm with Cord today. So excuse me.

Blair leaves to go re-join Cord and the kids.
