Having received a call that Starr is in trouble, Todd and Blair race to Starr's school, where they find Starr waiting for them with her teacher, Mr. Sheridan. Blair hugs Starr tightly.

Starr: Mommy, I can't breathe!
Todd: What's going on here? You said there was a problem, but Starr looks fine.
Mr. Sheridan: She may look fine, but -- perhaps we could discuss this somewhere else rather than in front of the child.
Blair: What did you do, sweetheart?
Starr: He's cheating on his wife!
Mr. Sheridan: Young lady --
Todd: (suddenly very interested) What did you just say?
Starr: I saw him kissing Miss Honeywell in the supply closet!
Mr. Sheridan: Whatever your daughter thinks she saw, my private life is my own business. She has no right to demand a better report card as the price of her silence.
Todd: You're blackmailing your teacher?
Blair: That's awful!
Todd: That's great!
Blair: Mr. Sheridan is right, sweetheart. His personal life is none of your business.
Starr: He watches everything I do in school!
Blair: Honey, that is part of his job -- he is your teacher. But it is not your job to spy on other people.
Starr: Yes, it is. Right, Daddy?

Blair turns to look at Todd, who looks busted.

Starr: Daddy taught me how to find out people's secrets. Remember how I used to spy on you and Uncle Max to help Daddy break you guys up?

Blair looks more pissed, and Todd looks more uncomfortable.

Blair: You've turned our daughter into a blackmailer. Are you proud of yourself?
Todd: Well, it depends. (to Mr. Sheridan) What's Starr's report card going to look like?
Mr. Sheridan: Starr's report card will reflect her behavior and schoolwork, the same as every other child's does.
Todd: Good. Good for you. You stick to your guns. You know, kids today -- I think they're looking for the easy way out. You know, it's really -- it's what's wrong with the whole world.
Mr. Sheridan: My sentiments exactly.
Blair: Mine, too. (to Starr) Are you listening, sweetheart?
Todd: You know, it gives me a great idea. Maybe I'll run a story in my newspaper -- you know, The Sun -- about morals. And I can get some quotes from you. I think it would reach a lot of people.
Mr. Sheridan: That sounds quite wonderful, Mr. Manning.
Todd: Yeah, and I'll run it right underneath the story about how you got caught with your hands in Miss Honeywell.
Mr. Sheridan: What?? You can't!

Starr looks gleeful.

Mr. Sheridan: My family, my -- my reputation!
Todd: Well, I could be convinced to pull the story, you know, if she got a good report card.
Mr. Sheridan: You're worse than she is!
Blair: Todd! Starr! Mr. Sheridan, I apologize for my daughter and for her father. This won't happen again. We will talk later -- you got that?
Starr: Fine.
Blair: Come on, Todd.

Blair storms down the hallway, and Todd gives Starr a furtive thumbs-up and follows after Blair.

Blair: Well, you're proud of yourself, aren't you, Todd?
Todd: Oh, yeah! Pretty much.
Blair: We're supposed to set the example for Starr!
Todd: Wait, what kind of example is Mr. Loosey Lips setting?
Blair: He isn't her father! Come on -- you're destroying our daughter, Todd!
Todd: Starr's fine.
Blair: I can't believe -- I can't believe I was about to make love to you this afternoon. I can't believe I was going to start up all that mess all over again! It's a good thing her teacher called when he did, or I would have made the biggest mistake of my life!

Blair storms back down the hallway, leaving Todd alone as kids file past him.

Todd: (to the kids) Come on -- what are you looking at?

He stays there in the hallway, clearly pondering what Blair has just said and how he'll get out of this one.

Blair storms back into her hotel room and tries to slam the door behind her, but Todd comes right up behind her and refuses to let her do it as he follows her inside, ranting all the way.

Todd: How you dare lecture me on morals, and -- I -- you're the loon who shot her husband in the back!
Blair: Don't you dare use that against me.
Todd: Hey, if the straight jacket fits.
Blair: And don't you screw up our daughter's life!
Todd: She's my daughter, too! I'll screw up her life any way I want!
Blair: What are you going to do, Todd? Turn her into a repressed sexual sociopath like you?
Todd: Better than being a -- a serial-killer wannabe! How many husbands have you shot, anyway, or tried to kill? You got Asa, you got Max -- I'm sensing a pattern here, Blair!
Blair: Don't you dare ever use that against me! Do you hear me? Ever! Don't you push me around! Don't you tell me what to do! Don't you dare threaten me, or I swear --
Todd: Or what? You swear what?
Blair: (haltingly) I swear...I won't marry you!

Todd glares at Blair, but his face flickers at that ever so slightly.

Blair: You want me to marry you? Then you swear on whatever you hold sacred that you will never use what I did against me. And you swear that you let me raise my daughter the way that I want to without your interference. And you swear --
Todd: I'm not swearing anything.
Blair: What happened to this "I'm fixed! I'm -- I'm in therapy!" Hmm?
Todd: I changed my mind. This is the deal -- you take me, and you take me now, the way I am.
Blair: Here's the deal -- the wedding's off!

Blair heads toward her bathroom, but Todd follows after her.

Todd: The hell it is.

She stops in her tracks.

Todd walks over to Blair.

Todd: You're not gonna call off the wedding, Blair.
Blair: Yeah, well, it's too late -- it's done, Todd. I may be crazy, but I'm not that crazy. You just gave me a reminder of what marrying you would be like again. And I'm not gonna to put myself through that again -- not now, not ever. Todd: Never say "not ever."
Blair: I can't believe that I actually agreed to relive the most insane time of my life again! What was I thinking? I've tried very hard to have a decent life, and I'm not going to throw it all away just for --
Todd: No, you threw it all away the night you shot Max in the back.
Blair: I will not be with a man who encourages his own little girl to blackmail her teacher!
Todd: Maybe she got that behavior from you, huh? Maybe she was doing it as some kind of a tribute to you!
Blair: I tried to teach Starr values! I don't tell her that I'm proud of her for her disgusting behavior!
Todd: Well, what about his disgusting behavior?
Blair: I'm not talking about him, Todd! I'm talking about you! I see you for what you really are, and I'm telling you now it's over!
Todd: That would be a mistake.
Blair: Almost. But thank God I had my lucky angel watching over me.
Todd: I'm your lucky angel -- I don't know why you haven't figured that out yet.
Blair: I'll tell you what I figured out!

She takes off her engagement ring and tosses it at his chest. Shocked, he takes it in his hand and looks at it.

Todd: That was a mistake, Blair. You're going to be sorry -- very sorry.

Todd rushes out of the room and heads to the elevator door. He then turns back to Blair's room but then thinks the better of it and returns to the elevator door to slam on the buttons. Then he turns back to Blair's door and considers it before turning to go down the hallway instead. As he goes, he runs into John.

John: Hey!
Todd: Shut up!

Todd stalks down the hallway, as John look at him in bemusement. Then John heads to Blair's door and goes through, closing the door behind him. Blair turns in surprise to see him.
