Todd Tells Blair the Skye/Rae Secret as a Birthday Present

Blair arrives at the Palace bar and takes a seat as a waiter approaches her.

Blair: Just coffee.

The waiter leaves, and John approaches.

John: And to think some of us doubted that you and Todd would actually go through with it.
Blair: What are you talking about?
John: Well, you made the front page!

He shows her the front page of The Sun.

John: "Third Time's A Charm, Blair Buchanan and Todd Manning to Wed." Hey, the whole town is a buzz about it.

He takes a seat near her.

John: Why -- what did you think I meant?

--end scene--

Blair: I'm not in a chatty mood, so if there's a point, get to it.
John: Just want to say congratulations. (showing her the newspaper headline again) Oh, this is a lovely picture of you, by the way. Have you and, uh, Todd set a date?
Blair: Not yet. There's still a lot to do.
John: I'll bet. Uh, you're still legally married to Max, aren't you?
Blair: Well, you know Todd -- he likes to do things in a very big way.
John: (chuckling wryly) Yeah, he does. Yeah. Uh, I know. So, he's the driving force behind this?
Blair: Absolutely not, but you're certainly driving this conversation. What do you want??
John: Well, you know -- you and Todd have certainly had a lot of ups and downs together. Why this rush to the altar?
Blair: Why not? We both know what we're in for.
John: Yeah. All the more reason to take it a little slower, I would think.
Blair: Maybe you shouldn't.
John: (chuckling) Good advice. You know, some people actually think that if you're married to someone that you can't be forced to, uh, testify against them. But, in fact, that's actually not true. Anything that happened before you were married is fair game. And if you were accomplices in the same crime, well....
Blair: You know who you are? You're a nobody with a badge who thinks he's a big deal. But I'm not intimidated, I'm not impressed, and I'm certainly not charmed.

As Blair finishes speaking, she sees Skye walk into the bar and walk towards them, which causes Blair to get up.

Blair: I suggest you get out of my face and start worrying about the vicious, lying, would-be murderer that you just let out of jail!
Skye: You bet I'm out, Blair. But you're going in -- both you and Todd. And you're going to fry. And I don't mean in hell.

--end scene--

Blair: Did you hear her? She just threatened me! And this isn't the first time either, John. Her first stop right after she got out of jail was my room. I should have had you brought up on charges then, Skye!
Skye: Why didn't you, Blair? Guilty conscience?
Blair: No, because I'm generous, but I regret it now, and you're going to regret it! I hope you're listening to me. You hear this? I think you'll enjoy prison. Oh, yes, a beautiful woman like you? I think you'll be in high demand.
Skye: I'm innocent, and you're the guilty one -- you hear me?

Skye tries to attack Blair, who shrugs off the attack as John yanks Skye away as Blair leaves the bar.

John: Easy! Hey! Unless you want to go to prison right now, you just calm down, because I will personally lock you up myself!

--end scene--

When the scene returns, Blair is outside her hotel room, digging around in her purse for the key.

Blair: Come on...

She finds the key and opens the door to see, to her surprise, Todd standing there, waiting for her. He has a cake, lit with candles, on the table in front of him, along with an ice bucket of chilled champagne. Todd blows a party horn.

Todd: Surprise?

--end scene--

Todd: Bellhop called, said you were on the way up. You like it?
Blair: It's not my birthday.
Todd: I know that. It's just that birthdays, you know, they usually stink, so this one should be special 'cause it's a surprise birthday.
Blair: It's not funny, it's not fun, and I don't want it! Look, do you know where I've been? I've been with Detective Sykes. And you know what he's been doing? He's been grilling me about Max's shooting and why suddenly we're engaged right after my husband was shot! He also thinks -- he tells me that people think that maybe we're doing this so we can't testify against each other. But he said that that's not true because we both could be accomplices!

As Blair has been talking, Todd has been fussing with cake and trying to put out the candles so he can cut it.

Todd: Okay, I said there wasn't going to be a problem, and there's not.
Blair: I don't know!
Todd: No, look, I said that I would take care of this, and I will.
Blair: No, you don't know what's going on.
Todd: Yes, I do.
Blair: Skye --

Todd gives up on trying to use the cake knife to put out the candles and blows them out in frustration.

Todd: Skye is trapped.
Blair: Skye took --
Todd: She's trapped!
Blair: -- a lie detector test, Todd, and she passed!

Blair angrily brushes away the smoke from the burned-out candles.

Blair: And Sykes think she's innocent.
Todd: Who cares?

Todd grabs two glasses of champagne that he's poured.

Todd: Let's celebrate. (he hands her a glass) Take it.

Blair reluctantly takes the glass.

Todd: (toasting Blair) Here's to Skye and all of her lies.

Blair glares at Todd but takes a swig of the champagne anyway.

--end scene--

Todd hands Blair a plate with a slice of cake on it, and she yanks the cake off of it with her hand and holds it out toward him.

Blair: You know what you can do with your cake?

Todd looks at the cake and then takes a bite out of it as Blair holds it. Then he makes a face.

Todd: It's yellow cake, which is not my favorite, but you like yellow cake. Yellow cake is your favorite, which is why I got it. (thrusting the plate toward her) Here.

Blair looks down at her cake-covered hands and becomes upset.

Blair: Look at this.

Todd takes her hand and begins tenderly wiping it off with a napkin, which affects Blair, who yanks her hand away.

Blair: Oh, come on, Todd, just stop, all right? Stop.
Todd: What?
Blair: It's -- it's not going to work.
Todd: You don't like yellow cake?
Blair: No, I'm talking about you and me. Just -- we just can't go on! It -- we're both going to end up being sorry.
Todd: Why?
Blair: Because! We'll -- we'll ruin everything. It'll -- it'll be disastrous as always!
Todd: I know, but you haven't seen my present yet.
Blair: I'm not talking about presents, Todd. I'm talking about commitment -- lifetime commitment.
Todd: Right, but you haven't seen it, have you?

Todd begins digging in his jacket pocket.

Blair: It's who we are. What are you --
Todd: Here. (he hands her a folded piece of paper) Open it.

Blair opens the paper and studies it.

Blair: It's a copy of a page in a Bible. What's the point?
Todd: Look closer.

Todd takes a confident sip of champagne as Blair looks again at the page and then looks back up at him in shock.

Blair: Oh, my God.

Todd smugly takes another sip of champagne.

--end scene--

Blair sits down on the edge of her bed, stunned, as she reads over the page again.

Blair: Is this real?
Todd: Oh, yeah. Yeah, I went to see Rae, 'cause, well, she's my shrink, right? And she said that I should give you some kind of a special present. And that was there -- right in her office. So I made a copy and -- well, do you like it?
Blair: (laughing) Yeah! You bet I do! Are you sure this is real?
Todd: Yeah.
Blair: So Skye Chandler is really Rae Cummings's daughter, and she has no idea?
Todd: Not a clue!

Todd turns back to the cake to cut another slice.

Todd: So you want to celebrate a birthday? Maybe it's Skye's.

Blair gets up off the bed to pace around the room in happy disbelief.

Blair: Ooh, you bet I do! I just can't believe this! Skye -- she hates Rae! Oh, man, everything Skye believes in -- all that stuff about being a Chandler -- whoo hoo! It's just been one big, long lifetime lie!

Blair turns back to Todd.

Blair: Oh, Todd, this is great. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah, I am really going to enjoy this --

Todd hands Blair another slice of cake, which she takes happily.

Blair: Giving Skye hell -- this -- this changes everything!
Todd: Right. For Skye. What about us?

Blair shoves a piece of cake in his mouth, and Blair looks at him curiously and takes a bite of her own cake.

--end scene--

Blair: Rae Cummings is Skye's mother? Oh, my, this is perfect! Oh!
Todd: You really like it.
Blair: Rae is probably the only person next to me that Skye hates more than anybody in this whole world! Oh, when Skye finds out that she is Rae's daughter, oh my gosh, Todd! There's not enough -- going to be enough alcohol in Llanview for the bender that she's going to go on! Are you sure that she doesn't know this?
Todd: (laughing) Skye -- Skye doesn't even know she's adopted.
Blair: Oh, this is going to be so sweet!
Todd: You really like it.
Blair: Like it? I love it! It's so perfect.

Todd becomes bashful as he goes to get more champagne.

Todd: Yeah, well, I mean, I -- I wanted to get you something unique.
Blair: Probably next to Starr, this is the -- oh, this is definitely the best gift anyone has ever given me, and -- and you gave me Starr, too.
Todd: Well, I know what you like.

He hands her some champagne, but she ignores it to look deeply into his eyes.

Blair: Thank you.

Todd looks down briefly, then looks back at her and quickly goes in for a passionate kiss.

--end scene--

T&B's kiss deepens, and she pulls away briefly to look at him and touch his face. He stares at her, and she goes to kiss him again as he closes his eyes. Suddenly, the phone rings, ruining the moment.

Todd: You -- you better get that.
Blair: Just let the voicemail get it.
Todd: It might be something important.
Blair: Okay.

Blair goes to get the phone.

Blair: Hello? Speaking.

Todd nervously downs his own champagne and then Blair's as well.

Blair: What -- what -- what happened? Well, did something happen to Starr?

Todd turns to look at her in surprise.

Blair: Wait, what do you mean you can't talk about it over the phone? All right, well, her father and I'll be right there.
Todd: What's wrong with Starr?

Blair rushes to grab her jacket and purse.

Blair: I don't know -- just said we need to get to the school.
Todd: Well, who's that on the phone?
Blair: That was her teacher. Come on -- he says it's serious.

They head out the door together.
