Blair Tells Kelly That She and Todd Are Engaged
Kevin and Kelly are at the Cramer house kissing in the foyer when Blair suddenly rushes in through the front door.
Blair: Okay, break it up -- right now! I need to talk to Kelly alone!
Kevin and Kelly look at Blair in annoyance.
--end scene--
When the scene returns, Kelly has brought Blair into the living room and has shut the door behind them for privacy.
Kelly: You wanted to talk? Talk. What's going on? What's so urgent?
Blair: Kelly, I really need your help.
Kelly: You need help? There's a surprise.
Blair: No, I'm serious! I think I have made a really big mistake.
--end scene--
Kelly: Blair, I'm sorry, but I can't get involved --
Blair: What??
Kelly: -- with another one of your mistakes!
Kelly grabs Blair's arm and starts leading her back toward the foyer.
Blair: Hey!
Kelly: You know what? It certainly just costs me too much.
Blair: Kelly, wait! I mean, all you have to do is just listen to me. I -- I just need somebody that I can talk to -- that I can trust. Somebody who I can be completely honest with.
Kelly: When have you ever been completely honest?
Blair: Oh, you know what, fine! I'm a really bad person, and you can never forgive me. I don't care! Look, you're the only family I have here in Llanview, and you're the only person that I can talk to right now!
Blair heads back toward the living room, with Kelly chasing after her.
Kelly: Do you want me to be your legal guardian again? Because, you know, last time I did that, I lost my paper. Or you going to try to kick me out of the house?
Blair: Just listen to me, okay? My life is spinning out of control. I think I'm going crazy.
Kelly: You've pulled the mad act before, too.
Blair: Why are you being so mean?
Kelly: You've used up your quota of my goodwill.
Kelly once again tries to lead Blair back out of the room.
Kelly: Listen, whatever it is, you can deal with it by yourself!
Blair refuses to budge and turns to face Kelly seriously.
Blair: Hey! Todd asked me to make marry him, and I said yes.
Kelly is shocked and tries to regain her composure.
Kelly: You're right. You are crazy.
--end scene--
Kelly: You know what? You want the truth? Here it is -- some people bring out the best in one another. Todd brings out the worst in you. Every single time -- every time he gets involved, suddenly it's okay for you to cheat and steal and trample on anybody who gets in your way. I've been there, remember??
Blair: Look, I was desperate then, Kelly! Come on!
They go to sit on the couches opposite each other.
Blair: It was -- was the only way that -- well, I could get him to help me just avoid a total meltdown with Max. That's all.
Kelly: Yeah, and you see where that got you.
Blair: You know, Todd says when I was with Max that -- well, I became someone that he didn't even recognize.
Kelly: Yeah. Somebody halfway decent. Honey, my God, listen to you. You sound like you're brainwashed! Save yourself -- save Starr. If you marry this man, it is suicidal. He has hurt you! Get out of this any way you can.
--end scene--
Blair and Kelly are seated on couches opposite each other as Kelly tries to lecture Blair.
Kelly: Todd is a sociopath. Do you know what that means? He doesn't have a conscience. He doesn't care about anyone else but himself.
Blair: He cares about Starr.
Kelly: As an extension of his own ego!
Blair: (sighing) There you go with all your psycho-babble.
Kelly: Okay. Todd is a rapist. Is that plain enough for you?
Blair: Kelly, you can't hold that against him for the rest of his life.
Kelly: Yes, I can.
Blair: No, you can't.
Kelly: Yes, I can! You got out of that sick and twisted relationship for a reason. You can't go back. Max was a step up. Todd? He's certifiable!
Kelly jumps up from the couch in frustration.
Blair: Okay, you know what? You made your point! I got it! Don't hit me over the head with a sledgehammer!
Kelly: You know, that's the only way I can get through to you!
Blair: Well, maybe I'm crazy! My mom, your mom, Cassie -- they're all in looney-bins. Maybe that's why I'm drawn to Todd.
Kelly: You know what? No! No! You're not crazy. You just have bad impulses, and you don't know how to deal with them. You need help!
Blair: Todd, he -- he went to see a shrink.
Kelly: (laughing in disbelief) Oh, God. You know what? That man is beyond help. But you're not.
Kelly goes back to sit on the couch.
Kelly: My God, if you could just put the brakes on before you start self-destructing -- like now! You are ready to make a stupid mistake, getting married to Todd because you're afraid of what people are going to think!
Blair: It's not just that!
Kelly: Listen, don't marry him! He's going to ruin your life. I can't think of anything more frightening!
Blair: I can. I tell you what -- it scares me to think that I could actually be happy with him.
Kelly is in disbelief at that.
--end scene--
Kelly: You care about him? About Todd?
Blair: He understands me better than any man has. He gets to me better than any man has. He would do anything for me. Kelly, I -- I had forgotten what that was like.
Kelly: Blair, think. He doesn't do things like normal people do.
Blair turns on Kelly, outraged.
Blair: You think I don't know that? Hell, he had me thrown in jail! (giving it a little more thought) You know, of course, I did almost sleep with Cristian Vega to get back at him.
Kelly: What?? Cristian? What? What did Todd do?
Blair: He practically had the building burned down.
Though Blair is amused as she tells the story, Kelly looks further freaked out.
Blair: I know Todd goes to the limit, but I know that I push him there! It's -- and I know it's not the things that love sonnets are written about.
Kelly: No. No, you certainly can't choose who you love. Look at me, you know? I got caught between two men. But they were sane. They were sane! And, finally, Kevin -- we're happy. The two of us are very happy.
Blair: Oh, and I'm sure you're going to just tell me all about it, huh?
Kelly: No. Do you love him?
Blair pauses for just a moment before answering. When she does speak, her voice trembles with sudden and unexpected emotion.
Blair: I think I do. (smiling) Imagine that.
Kelly: 'Cause you walked in here tonight saying that you thought you had made a mistake.
Blair: Yeah, I know. It's just that -- what I don't know is if I should -- if I'm ready to marry him now. I don't know if he's ready to marry me now. I -- I just don't know!
Kelly: Well, then tell him that! Tell him. Tell him what you're feeling.
Blair: Well, he doesn't take disappointment very well, Kelly.
Kelly: So what are you gonna do? You're going to marry him and tiptoe around for the rest of your life?
Blair, exasperated, starts heading toward the door, but Kelly goes after her and puts a reassuring hand on her back.
Kelly: Hey -- do what's best for you. (turning Blair to face her) I care about you a lot.
Blair suddenly pulls Kelly into a hug.
Blair: I care about me, too. I'll do what I have to.
Blair nods decisively at Kelly and then heads out the door. Kelly, for her part, still looks a bit shaken.
