Todd Says Goodbye To Blair Before Leaving Town
Blair's busy at her penthouse worrying over finances, punching numbers into the calculator and grimacing at the results.
Blair: There's got to be something that I can do here...oh, man, and after I pay Cord back for his lease...!
She looks down at one of the papers in her file -- it's the note that Cord gave her with the money for the Melador lease. The note reads, "Dear Blair, this is for you, with love for our new partnership." As she reads it, she hears Cord's voice ringing in her head: "Here's to you, Blair, and to your dream. To Melador -- may it be everything you want it to be and more."
Blair: Cord...
Suddenly, the doorbell rings, and Blair has to get up to answer it.
Blair: Coming!
She opens the door to find Todd standing there.
Blair: Hey, Todd.
Todd: Hey, Blair.
Blair: What's up?
Todd enters the penthouse.
Todd: This ring you gave me -- it's really nice and everything. (he hands it to her) Why don't you hold onto it for awhile. See if you can make it smaller. It's slipping around a lot.
Blair closes the door and follows Todd into the apartment.
Blair: Sure. No problem.
Todd: What, are you trying to figure out how to spend Dorian's 200 grand?
Blair: Yes, and I found out that it doesn't go too far when you're starting up a new business.
Todd: Yeah, well, if I find gold in Key West, I'll share it with you.
Blair: Thanks. Well, you're not leaving now, are you?
Todd: Oh, yeah. Yeah, I'm sick of this town.
Blair: (with surprising determination) No! You are not going!
--end scene--
Blair: You said that you would stay until you found out why David Vickers hired that woman detective to start digging into your life.
Todd: That's right. But when I cornered her, guess what? Big surprise -- she didn't know anything.
Blair: (exasperated) Yeah, but Todd, you said you were going to get tough with her!
Todd: Look, she swore up and down she didn't know anything!
Blair: Oh, right, so -- you're just going to give up.
Todd: Yeah. What, you got a problem with that?
Blair: Yes. You know, maybe your birth parents want to find you --
But Todd is sick and tired of this argument from Blair.
Todd: Blair, I don't care who my birth parents are, okay?? Now, just think about this for a second -- whoever they are, they gave me to Peter Manning, remember?
Blair: Well, I'm not going to let you go.
Todd: What's your problem, Blair? What, misery loves company?
Blair: Come on, Todd --
Todd: Look, why don't you just get out of my way? I'm going to go down to the country club and pick up my last paycheck.
Blair: No. Don't you want to find out what that key is to?
Blair's determination finally wears Todd down.
Todd: Okay, fine. I'll stop by David Vickers' and I'll see if he has any information, okay? After that, I'm out of here. Now, do -- do you mind?
He tries to step past Blair, but she refuses to budge.
Blair: Mm-hmm. Because first, you have to do me a favor. Just one little favor.
--end scene--
When the scene returns, Blair has had Todd write out something out for her on a sheet of paper. He hands it back to her.
Todd: Here's your, uh, whatever you call it.
Blair: It's called a "promissory letter."
Todd: Yeah, whatever.
Blair reads the letter aloud to him.
Blair: "I, Todd Manning, promise to visit Blair Daimler at least three times a year."
Todd: For whatever that's worth.
Blair: You have to sign it.
Todd: What, are you going to haul me into court if I don't show?
Blair: You promised.
Todd sighs and signs his name to the letter.
Todd: Yeah, I promised. You know, I don't mind. You're probably the only person in this town I'm going to miss at all.
Todd hands the letter back to Blair.
Todd: Well, here you go. Or do you want to call your doorman in here to witness this?
Blair: This'll do.
There's an awkward pause.
Todd: Good luck, uh -- reeling Cord in.
Blair: Well, forget that. I've, um -- I've given up on that daydream.
Todd: (not about to believe that) Whatever. I'm out of here.
Todd goes to leave, but Blair has one last thing for him.
Blair: Well, aren't you forgetting something?
Todd: (avoiding eye contact with her) What?
Blair gives Todd a long look, then goes to get the key and chain out of a nearby drawer.
Todd: What would I want with that?
Blair: Who knows, Todd...
Blair slips the chain around his neck.
Blair: This may be the key to better times for you.
Blair looks at Todd intently as she holds onto the chain, keeping his face close to hers. Todd averts his eyes at first, then makes eye contact with her for a brief moment before turning and leaving.
Todd: See you later.
He heads out the door. Blair, now alone, seems full of regret.
Blair: I'm going to miss him.
Just then the phone rings. It's Cord...and the conversation that he's about to have with Blair will change T&B forever....
