Spencer Proposes To Blair (Soap Opera Digest 8/22/06)

Blair's undercover scheme with Spencer has already forced her into a public fistfight and creepy shower sex, but this week she is really put to the test when Spencer asks her to marry him in front of the entire town.

"She has made her bed, literally [laughs], and now she is having to L-I-E in it: lie, lie, lie," chuckles Kassie DePaiva (Blair).

Prior to the proposal, Blair makes serious headway both toward making amends with Todd and getting the goods on Spencer. After Starr's accident, Todd and Blair "don't want to do anything to upset her, so they play [like they're getting] along, and of course, that drives Spencer crazy," DePaiva previews. "At the same time, John is trying to get information to take Spencer down, but Blair doesn't want to be pulled away from Starr. But she really wants to help, so she agrees to steal the key to his safety deposit box, which John thinks might [contain] the matching gun."

Then, as they prepare to attend a huge gala together, Spencer telsl Blair that they're stopping by the bank on the way there. "She's like, 'Oh, geez!'" DePaiva groans. "She puts the key back on the ring without him finding out she had it. But what Spencer's really going to the safety deposit box for is an engagement ring, unbeknownst to her."

Once at the gala, Blair is on the verge of a breakthrough with Todd when Spencer pops the question. "Viki tells Todd, 'Just talk to her,' so he asks Blair to talk, but during their conversation, out of the corner of their ears they hear, 'Blair, will you marry me?'" DePaiva explains. "She's there looking in Todd's eyes, and Todd is just devastated. But she continues to have to be like, 'Tsk, what's wrong?' and be ugly and awful. Every time [Spencer] tests her, she has to go one step further."

What will her answer be? "Blair is willing to go as far as she has to go," DePaiva sighs.
