Miss: Margaret's Overcooked Todd Complex (Soap Opera Weekly 9/27/05)
One Life to Live's homage to Fatal Attraction was fun, but the ongoing battle
between Margaret and Todd is terminally silly. The mix of camp and creepiness
is disturbing and unnessecary.
Much has been said about the Todd who redeemed himself after raping Marty
and built a family with Blair, but viewers certainly aren't seeing that man
now. Todd is supposed to be an intelligent, albeit damaged, guy, but he still
hasn't picked up on basic truths like "murder is bad" and "lying to your
wife always bites you in the butt." Pick up the phone, Todd. Call the police,
call Blair. Grow up. His stubborn silence and refusal to seek help is putting
his family in danger, not crazy Peg.
Speaking of whom, while the remarkable Tari Signor (Margaret) is clearly
enjoying feasting on the scenery, there remains no fathomable reason for
Margaret to boil bunnies over Todd, a man who has shown her nothing but contempt
-- and even tried to kill her, despite knowing she's carrying Todd Jr. Sure,
Margaret's off her rocker, but it's getting old.
Oh, and expecting viewers to cheer for Todd to choke a pregnant woman to
death, even if she IS a rabbit-boiling, scissor-waving psycho, is as ludicrous
as the rape-inducing pregnancy itself.
Margaret's attraction to Todd is certainly fatal -- for her, Todd, OLTL and
viewers' attention spans. -- MB
