T&B And Starr Almost Go To Santo Domingo

When the scene opens, Todd is at the Buchanan Mansion eavesdropping on Blair and Max's divorce settlement meeting. He listens at the study door as Blair questions Max about his real feelings for her now that she is engaged to Todd.

Blair's Voice: (to Max) I don't hear anything from the man who has all the answers.
Max's Voice: (soft) What do you want to hear? That I didn't mean all the things I said? It was all a big mistake?

Todd, looking a little bit worried, barges into the study and interrupts them.

Todd: Hey Holden, how's it -- wait a minute, oh, it's Buchanan, that's right! You know, I will never be able to keep all of this straight.

Todd quickly takes his place by Blair's side and they turn to face Max as a team.

Todd: (to Max) Uh, did you pick out a wedding present yet?
Blair: I was just telling Max what I wanted -- a big, fat settlement.
Todd: She registered for it and everything.
Max: I told her I'd fight it. Blair and I will be making each other miserable for years to come.
Todd: Sounds just like being married! Come on, Blair. (to Max) You can keep your money, you can keep your settlement. Blair doesn't need it.
Blair: Wait, Todd!

But Todd is turning to go and, confused, she goes with him.

Todd: Let's go, let's get out of this velvet mausoleum now. I'm going to show you something that's going to make you forget this chump and his change!

With that, Todd and Blair leave the mansion.

--end scene--

When the scene returns, Todd and Blair have just boarded his private jet. Blair is still extremely upset because Todd interrupted her meeting with Max and stopped her from getting her hands on the Buchanan fortune.

Blair: I can't believe that you would kiss off millions -- my millions!
Todd: (angrily) I will make it up to you!

Todd wrenches off his jacket and throws it to the side. Blair is unimpressed.

Blair: How, Todd? By letting me ride in your big ole' jet? (in a mock child's voice) "Gee, Uncky Todd, can I sit by the window??"
Todd: (matching her with his own mock child's voice) "You're not careful, you'll ride on the roof!" (in his normal voice) Now, sit down!

Blair stays standing, crosses her arms and glares at him.

Todd: (yelling) SIT DOWN! God, you ruin everything! Sit down!
Blair: All right!

Blair finally sits in her seat. Todd sits next to her and continues to rant.

Todd: This is supposed to be one of those -- those -- big romantic gestures that you care so much about! And you're going to enjoy this if it kills you!

Before Blair can respond, Starr boards the jet, with the nanny, Suzanne, following her. Blair is surprised because Starr is dressed in a pretty cream-colored dress. With a crown of flowers on her hair and a basket of roses in her hands, she looks the part of a flower girl.

Starr: (twirling and posing) Look at the dress Daddy got me, Mommy!
Blair: What's the occasion?
Suzanne: (in a stage whisper, to Starr) Now give her the flowers the way I showed you.
Starr: (handing the flowers to Blair) Here!

Blair takes the flowers and humors Starr by giving them an obligatory sniff.

Blair: Lovely. (to Todd) Okay, Todd. What's going on?

--end scene--

Blair gets out of her seat and goes to stand by Starr.

Blair: Why is Starr dressed like this, huh?
Todd: You don't think she looks cute?
Blair: You're the one that's being cute. Too cute. Now where are we going?
Todd: Santo Domingo.
Blair: I can't go to Santo Domingo! I don't even have a passport!

Todd gets out of his seat, reaches in his pocket, pulls out a passport and hands it to Blair.

Blair: Well, don't I have to sign some documents or get a picture or something? Come on...

She opens the passport and inspects it. It does look official, but what's surprising is the name she's registered under.

Blair: (reading it) "Blair Cramer Manning"?

Blair shoots Todd a stunned look.

--end scene--

Blair: "Blair Cramer Manning." Is this some kind of joke?
Todd: (shrugging) Yes? Ha ha? I don't know, can't you just go along with it? There's --

Todd gestures lamely to Starr and Suzanne, who are watching the show. Blair follows his gaze, then turns her attention back to Todd.

Blair: We're getting married -- when? Today?
Todd: Tonight. Santo Domingo. That's where you divorce Max and you marry me.

Starr jumps up from her seat and begins twirling again.

Starr: Yippie! Don't I look beautiful?
Blair: (to Starr) You look beautiful. Absolutely gorgeous. (to Todd) You know, did you ever think about maybe asking me before you told Starr?
Todd: We're her parents. I think she'd figure it out eventually. Besides, look at her. She's thrilled!
Blair: Todd! You know, maybe I would like to have been the one to have told her. Did you ever think about that, huh?
Todd: What difference does it make -- you tell her, I tell her? The -- the -- the point is, is that we're getting married! We go down there and it's all arranged! We got a car picking us up at the airport. You go down to the magistrate's office at City Hall. And you sign a couple of papers and you're divorced from Max! Then we go to a church around the corner and you marry me! It's really very simple!
Blair: You've just got it all figured out, don't you?
Todd: Yes!
Blair: Well, there's just one problem.
Todd: No! No! There's no problems, because I got a dress, it's right there in that suitcase! (he points at some nearby luggage)
Blair: It's not the dress.
Todd: Then what's the problem?

--end scene--

Todd: Oh, come on, Blair. Look, I'm not psychic. What's the problem?
Blair: The problem is I'm not going anywhere with you.
Todd: No, you are! This plane here has got gas in it, and -- and there's meals in the galley. Now, you can't do this! Not now!
Blair: Yes, I can, and I am, and I'm not going!

Starr freaks out.

Starr: No fair! Daddy promised!
Blair: Look, uh, Suzanne would you take Starr back to the hotel please --
Starr: No way! No way!
Blair: Look, we will talk about this later, all right?
Starr: Daddy promised!
Blair: Enough, Starr!
Starr: (turning her rage on Todd) Daddy, do something! I didn't wear this stupid dress for nothing!

Todd does the only thing he can think of -- he digs in his pocket for some cash, then thrusts it at Starr.

Blair: Todd!
Todd: Go get some candy or something.
Starr: This is so not fair!

Starr stomps off the jet with Suzanne. As soon as she's gone, Todd echoes her.

Todd: (to Blair) Oh, this is so not fair! You accepted my proposal, now you're backing out of it?? This has to do with Max, doesn't it??
Blair: No, it doesn't have to do with Max! It's about you and the way you do things, Todd!
Todd: I'm efficient!
Blair: You are selfish!
Todd: So what??

Blair struggles to regain her composure.

Blair: You know, you had no right talking to Starr and telling her -- telling her about this. I mean, not alone. Todd, this is supposed to be our wedding -- our wedding! Our chance to flaunt our happiness all over this stinkin' town! And what's what I wanted. I wanted to see it -- I wanted to see everybody's face. That's what I wanted, Todd. I wanted a big wedding. Now, if we went down to Santo Domingo, it looks like that we're -- that we're ashamed!
Todd: (sighing) I just want the whole stupid thing over with and done.
Blair: (sarcastically) Oh, well, you know, that's all you had to say. That's just so romantic.
Todd: Hey, that's who I am. You know that.
Blair: Why do we have to move so fast?
Todd: Because we do!

Todd sits back down in his seat and decides it's time to issue an ultimatum.

Todd: That's it. No, you either -- you go down to Santo Domingo and you marry me now, or forget it! The whole thing's off!
Blair: (throwing her passport at him) Fine! The wedding's off!

Todd looks like he didn't expect -- or want -- that answer.

--end scene--

Todd stands back up and puts the passport back in his jacket pocket.

Todd: I knew you'd try and find a way to get out of it.
Blair: You drove me to it.
Todd: Is this some stupid way to try and hurt me, huh? If you didn't wanna marry me, why did you accept my proposal? Why did you say yes?
Blair: Todd, just listen to me a minute. I do want to marry you. I just don't want to do it like this. I want a big wedding. I want it to be bigger and better than Viki's! I want everybody in Llanview, everybody in this stinkin' town to be watching us! Looking, staring, just figuring out how we pulled it off. That's what I want!
Todd: You sure -- you sure that's what you want?
Blair: Yes, that's what I want! Why are you trying to change it all now? It's what we both want! Why don't we just stop, slow down, and just -- you know, enjoy all of this?
Todd: I'm just trying to be like everybody else.
Blair: (softly) Todd. We're not like everybody else. That's the whole point. We're different. We're better.
Todd: So if we go to Santo Domingo, we're not different and better?
Blair: It's just what I want. Can you accept it, or not?

Todd reluctantly nods.
