Starr is kneeling on the floor in her room in the Buchanan mansion, writing a letter on a little padded stool.

Todd: Hey Starr! (sees what she's doing) Oh -- you writing me a letter?
Starr: Daddy! You came back!
Todd: Yeah, I came back -- I always come back, right?
Starr: No.
Todd: (kneeling beside her on the floor) Oh. Well I'm here now so you don't have to waste your time writing me a stupid letter.
Starr: It's not for you. I'm writing to my friend Kayla from camp.
Todd: About what?
Starr: Stuff. About what Mommy's doing to Uncle Max.
Todd: Oh. (suddenly very interested, he tries to look at the letter)
Starr: How do you spell "revenge"?
Todd: (amused) Heh.

Todd is pacing the room, spelling out the word "revenge" for Starr as she writers it in her letter.

Todd: "R-E-V-E-N-G-E." Wait -- so Blair was talking about revenge?
Starr: (still writing) Mm-hmm.
Todd: Do you know what that means?
Starr: Not really.
Todd: (crouching beside Starr) Well that's when somebody hurts you or even tries to hurt you, you hurt them back even harder. It's called getting even.
Starr: Grandma Renee says you shouldn't do that. It isn't nice.
Todd: No, it's something you do.
Starr: I always want to get even. Mommy does, too.
Todd: So, who hurt Blair?
Starr: Uncle Max and the red haired lady.
Todd: What red haired lady?
Starr: Her name's Skye.
Todd: There's a red haired lady named Skye?
Starr: Mm-hmm. I don't like her. Uncle Max really did. That made Mommy sad. I hate it when Mommy's sad. It makes my heart hurt.
Todd: Well you don't need to worry about that, now. Nobody's going to hurt you. Not some red haired lady named Skye. Especially not Max.
Starr: Really?
Todd: Really.

In an adjoining scene, Todd -- after leaving Starr's room -- ventures over to the study and comes upon Max and Blair making out. They don't see him. Todd, looking disgusted, backs out of the room and closes the door behind him. He then rushes back into Starr's room, where Starr is playing with her stuffed toy, Fred the Magic Frog.

Todd: So. When was the last time you heard Blair talking about revenge and Max?
Starr: All the time.
Todd: (referring to Blair kissing Max in the study)  If that's how she takes revenge on people, I really want to be there when she takes it out on Skye.
Starr: What if Uncle Max gets mad? Who will take care of us?
Todd: Well, I'm here, Starr. So you'll be safe now no matter what.
Starr: Does that mean you're going to be here forever?
Todd: Starr -- I can't promise you that.
Starr: Please, Daddy. Stay with Mommy and take care of us. Wouldn't you like that?

Todd looks at Starr -- who is gazing at him with big, hopeful eyes. The expression on his own face is classic...perhaps he's remembering Max and Blair's kissing session in the study.

Todd: (sighs) Starr...I just -- I can't be together with Blair.
Starr: Why not?
Todd: Because I can't be together with Blair.
Starr: Can I stay with you and Tee?
Todd: Well, I can't be together with Tea either.
Starr: Your life is a mess!
Todd: (smiles ruefully) Yeah. You know...we'll always have each other, right?
Starr: (nods and smiles) Right.
