Todd Locks Himself in a Storage Room With Blair

When the scene returns, Todd is leading Blair down a hallway in the building basement. He stops by a storage closet, opens the door, and motions for her to go inside.

Blair: What's this? This is the surprise?

Blair goes into the closet and Todd follows close behind her.

Blair: Todd, you dragged me all the way down here -- what's so special in here?

Todd "accidentally" closes the door behind them.

Todd: Aw, man.
Blair: You forgot your way around your own building? What, did you pick something up from Nora?
Todd: Well, you know, I've been away for awhile. Sue me.

Todd starts messing with the door, putting on a big show of acting as if he's trying to open it.

Blair: Just stop messing with the door, Todd, and open it, please.
Todd: It's jammed or it's locked or something.
Blair: What?? Oh for pete's sakes, let me do it.

Blair goes to the door and tries to open it, but she can't.

Todd: Told you so.
Blair: All right, Todd, just unlock the door. Now!
Todd: Oh, you know, I would but I've left my magic wand in my OTHER really cool blazer.
Blair: Well, I don't care. Then knock it -- do something!
Todd: You watch too much TV, you know, people don't go around in real life just breaking doors down.
Blair: You -- you mean we're stuck in here?
Todd: (shrugs)

--end scene--

Blair is alarmed that the door won't open, but Todd seems remarkably unfazed as he rifles through boxes of custodial equipment.

Blair: What are you doing?
Todd: (holding a squeegee brush) Why do they call them "squeegee"? You know -- you think the guy that invented them was really named "Squeegee"?
Blair: I don't care!
Todd: Luigi Squeegee. You know, I guess it really kind of sounds like the noise it makes when you use it. You know -- (he moves it around in the air) "Squeeeeggeeee."
Blair: Why aren't you helping me unlock the door, Todd?
Todd: Because it's locked.
Blair: Because I need out, that's why!
Todd: Well, somebody will come here eventually. Somebody who's looking for a squeegee.
Blair: Well, that's not good enough, because I need to get out of here now! Max is waiting! We're trying to make a baby!

Todd makes an exaggerated face of disgust.

Todd: Oh, that's disgusting! Aw, I've got to live with that image in my head??

Blair suddenly realizes what's going on.

Blair: You -- you did this on purpose, didn't you? You locked me in here on purpose!

--end scene--

Blair: I'm right! You did lock me in here on purpose!
Todd: Oh yeah, yeah, I did. You're right. Because I'm so crazy about you. I can't get over it, you know? I'm sick and I can hardly eat, I can hardly sleep, I can hardly bring myself to dot my "i's" with those little hearts anymore.
Blair: Todd, I don't care, just unlock the door and let me get out of here so I can get to the Bayberry Inn.

Todd loses his temper.

Todd: What do you want to have a baby with Max for, anyway? You know, the whole marriage thing, really, I understand that, okay? It's about the mansion, you get the money, but what do you get if you have a baby? You don't get anything. You don't even get any MORE money when he finally leaves you for Skye.
Blair: (angrily) He's not going to leave me for Skye!
Todd: (scoffs) Yeah, okay, well, that still doesn't explain why you're having a baby with a loser like Max.
Blair: You know what, maybe because I love him, Todd, huh? Maybe because he's my husband. The same reason you and I had Starr.

Todd, surprised, looks back at Blair.

--end scene--

Todd: Don't -- don't compare what we had with that syrupy, sickening thing that you want to do with Max.
Blair: I'm not. (trying to compose herself) Look, all I'm saying is -- that we created Starr out of -- out of love. And that is exactly what I intend to do with Max.
Todd: (stomping his foot) You are not going to have another Starr!
Blair: (stomping her feet) I am not trying to make another Starr!
Todd: The only thing you're going to have is exactly what you deserve for getting involved with a guy like Max!
Blair: Oh --
Todd: Max will leave you! And you will go ballistic, and then we'll be exactly where we started from!
Blair: Max is not you! You're the one that ruined everything that we had, Todd, when you went off to Ireland to save Marty right after we got married!
Todd: (sarcastically) I wanted to go to Ireland to get shot in the back!
Blair: You should have never been there in the first place!
Todd: Well, it didn't take long for you to get over me! I come back, I see you rolling around the floor with Patrick Thornhart!
Blair: YOU WERE DEAD, TODD! You were gone for over a year!
Todd: Well, as soon as you found out I was alive, you still wanted to have a baby with the Irish poet!
Blair: (emotionally) Now, don't you dare bring up Brendan!
Todd: You wanted to have an Irish poet baby, you want to have a Max baby -- you don't need another baby!
Blair: Starr --
Todd: You already have a baby! You don't need any more babies!
Blair: She would be thrilled to have a little brother or a little sister!
Todd: Starr doesn't want another brother or a sister! The only thing that little girl wants -- the only thing in the whole world she wants is for her mother and father to be back together!

By now, both have stopped screaming at each other and Blair has had a sudden realization.

Blair: Oh, wait a minute. I get it. That's what you want, isn't it??

--end scene--

Todd is flustered and trying desperately to play it off.

Todd: No. You know -- your ego -- I am not interested in getting back together with you. This is just what -- I'm just telling you what -- what Starr said.
Blair: She said that?
Todd: Yeah, she said that exactly.
Blair: Well, then, I think it's our responsibility as her parents to explain to her that things are different now.
Todd: (shrugs)
Blair: (pointedly) Very, very different.
Todd: Yeah, no, absolutely.
Blair: All right. And I also think it's our responsibility to -- well, to maintain a good relationship.
Todd: Nobody has a good relationship with me.
Blair: I did. Because I accepted you for who you are, just like you accepted me. We understood each other back then, Todd. Now, right now I am asking you to understand me. Understand that I really need to get out of here because I need to get to Max, okay? Look, I'm desperate here.
Todd: You are. You're desperate. That's exactly it. That's it in a nutshell. You know, if you were really okay with Max, you wouldn't be so desperate.
Blair: Oh, that is such a crock.
Todd: No, that's it, isn't it? It's Skye, right?
Blair: No!
Todd: Oh, come on.
Blair: No, it's not Skye! I just need to get out of here!
Todd: I know you. I know you better than you know you, and you know that. And you know that it wouldn't be hard for somebody to take Max away from you, especially not someone as determined as Skye.

--end scene--

Blair paces the room as Todd walks back over to the cleaning supplies.

Blair: The only desperate person in this room here is you.
Todd: (picking up the squeegee) Yeah, if you say so.
Blair: Because my marriage to Max is stronger than ever.
Todd: (to the squeegee) You getting any of this?
Blair: And that is the only reason why Max and I are making a baby.
Todd: (to the squeegee) I agree, she's full of it.
Blair: You know, why do you think that everybody has ulterior motives, Todd?
Todd: Because everybody has ulterior motives.
Blair: Okay then, what's yours? I know that you locked us in here on purpose. Hmm? Was it just to keep me from having a baby with Max?
Todd: (nods)

--end scene--

Blair: So you finally admit it! You did lock me in here on purpose!
Todd: It's for your own good.

Blair yanks the squeegee away from him and throws it on the ground.

Blair: I'll give you your own good!
Todd: You'll thank me some day.

Blair runs back over to the door and tries to yank it open.

Blair: Let me out of here, Todd! (banging on the door) Help, somebody! Help me, somebody! I'm locked inside this room with a lunatic! Help! Open up! Help me!

--end scene--

When the scene returns, Blair is still banging on the door.

Blair: Somebody help me! Fire! Murder! (casting an angry look at Todd) Rape!

Of course, there's no response. Blair finally stops the banging and looks at the clock on the wall.

Blair: 4 o'clock! 4 o'clock! (threateningly to Todd) You...you!
Todd: (helpfully) The father of your only child.
Blair: You're a son of a -- do you know how long we've been in this hell hole??
Todd: Yeah, well, time flies when you're completely out of your mind for marrying Max.
Blair: Why didn't you just stay away, Todd? Why did you have to come back to town, huh? I've got a good thing going with Max. I'm getting a life. You have to come back? You know, you're not going to ruin everything I got going with Max. I'm not going to let you. I won't!
Todd: You ruined your whole life all by yourself. You live with Asa! You live in Asa's house, under Asa's thumb, with a man you feel you have to breed with in order to keep him interested.

Blair looks stunned at Todd's words. Is it because she can't believe his nerve...or because he struck one? Todd soldiers on.

Todd: I mean, Blair, Max had his red-headed twinkie move into the bedroom next door for easy access!
Blair: Shut up! Max is over the tramp, all right?
Todd: Over? Or on top of?
Blair: Just shut up.
Todd: If he's over her, how come he still sniffs around her every chance he gets?
Blair: Well, Todd, because maybe Max is a normal, healthy man with normal, healthy tendencies. But then again, you know, you wouldn't know anything about normal or healthy.
Todd: Look who's talking.
Blair: Max is worth ten of you!
Todd: Max is a sorry mutation of a man.
Blair: Yeah, and you're Victor Lord's son! And we all know who he is! And we all know who you are!

This time it's Blair who's struck a nerve.

--end scene--

When the scene returns, Blair is sitting by the door and she seems to have cooled down considerably.

Blair: Okay. Maybe I shouldn't have said that. You know, Todd, it's just that you drive me crazy.
Todd: No, it's true what you said.
Blair: No, it's not. Look, I -- I've seen the other side of you. The loving side. So has Starr, and -- and I know that you love our daughter. And for some crazy reason, you suddenly care about me, I guess. I mean, that is what all this is about, isn't it? Isn't it?

Todd doesn't reply.

Blair: Todd, I -- it won't work, all right? You can't control me anymore. We're not together anymore. (standing up) So, if you don't mind, I would really like to get out of here. So you can just open up the door, please?
Todd: What is it that you and Max have on Ben Davidson?

Blair is totally caught off guard.

Blair: What? Where did that come from?
Todd: Better yet, what does Ben Davidson have on you and Max?
Blair: I barely even know Ben Davidson.
Todd: (laughing) Okay, you're a big liar. You're not as good at it as me, but you are. You're a big liar.
Blair: Why would I lie about Ben? I mean --
Todd: I don't know. You tell me. Every time I mention Ben, you freak out.
Blair: I didn't freak out! I didn't freak out! It's just that, you know, Ben, his family has really gone through the mill because of Asa, and I just don't want to give him anymore trouble, that's all.
Todd: You know, Max freaks out when I mention Ben even more than you do. I'll tell you what, you nudge me in the right direction when it comes to Ben Davidson, and you can go on your way out of here.
Blair: (seething) You do know how to get this door open!
Todd: I didn't say that.
Blair: All right. I'll tell you. Max and I are space aliens and Ben knows it. Now, will you open the door, please?
Todd: I would, but I guess I have to protect the good citizens of Llanview.
Blair: You wouldn't even open the door no matter what I told you.
Todd: Maybe. Maybe not. The only way you're going to find out is if you tell me what I want to know.

--end scene--

When the scene returns, it's now 9 o'clock.

Todd: I'm hungry.
Blair: Then open the door.
Todd: You're not going to tell me anything about Ben?
Blair: I don't know anything about Ben.
Todd: (sighing) I guess fasting's supposed to be good for you.
Blair: Why are you so interested in Ben, anyway? Why are you trying to dig up dirt on him?
Todd: I'm just worried about the effect that he has on Viki.
Blair: (sighs)
Todd: I'm serious. Ben is nothing like his brother Sam.
Blair: Yeah, well, what is that supposed to mean, Todd?
Todd: What -- you haven't noticed that?
Blair: They're the same! Same!
Todd: No, they're not, they're completely different! Sam and Ben are completely different.
Blair: Why are you so interested in Ben?
Todd: I'm not, really, I'm just trying to pass the time.
Blair: Well, you know what, you can pass the time, you can pass gas, I don't care. Just leave me alone.
Todd: Don't get yourself all worked up. You'll use up all the good oxygen.
Blair: And you can't keep me locked in here forever, you got that? And you can't stop Max and me. Because we got a really good thing going, and we're on the right track. You're not going to be able to stop us, Todd, you hear me? You're not!
Todd: (muttering) Hell I'm not.
Blair: What's that supposed to mean, Todd?

--end scene--

Todd and Blair stand close to one another.

Blair: What are you planning, Todd?
Todd: I still get to you. You don't know what I'm going to do next, and you like that. You like a life full of surprises.

Blair fumes over this statement. Suddenly, they both hear a noise outside the door.

Blair: Did you hear that?
Todd: (grumpy) I didn't hear anything.

Blair runs to the door and starts banging on it.

Blair: Hey, open up! We're in here, we're locked in the room!

Max can be heard out in the hallway.

Max's Voice: Blair, where are you?
Blair: Max, is that you?? I'm in one of these store-rooms! Open up! Max! I'm in here!

The door opens and Max comes inside.

Blair: Oh, thank God!

But Max ignores her and heads straight for Todd. He quickly has Todd in a strangle-hold as Blair watches helplessly.

Blair: Max, stop it! Stop, Max, you're going to kill him, Max, stop it!

--end scene--

Max continues to try to choke Todd, despite Blair's pleas.

Blair: Max, please, stop it, Max, it was an accident! Don't kill him, it will ruin everything that we've worked so hard to get! Please, stop it, Max, stop!

Max finally releases Todd.

Max: You come near my wife again, you're going out in a body bag!

Max and Blair leave. Todd stays behind in the room, looking thoroughly pissed off.
