T&B Return To Rodi's Later That Same Night

Todd and Blair's night on the town continues -- they return to Rodi's after having paid a quick visit to Dorian's to secure her financial backing for Blair's new company, Melador. The trip was a success, so Blair is flying high, and especially happy to see that regular bartender Jonesy is back (and her fill-in, Dylan Moody, is nowhere to be seen). Kool & The Gang's "Jungle Boogie" can be heard playing on the jukebox in the background.

Blair: Jonesy, you are back!
Jonesy: I'm surprised you two are still standing.
Blair: Well, you -- you can't keep us down. Now, I want a bottle of your best champagne, all right?
Jonesy: All right.

Todd and Blair head over to a table and sit down.

Blair: Oh, Todd, can you believe this night??
Todd: It's pretty weird, I'll tell you that.
Blair: Am I drunk, or did my aunt just write me a check for $200,000??
Todd: You are drunk, and yes, she did.
Blair: Wait a minute, let me just check... (she opens her purse and takes the check out) Oh! Oh, here it is! Yes, I am not dreaming! (she kisses the check)

Jonesy approaches with a couple of mugs and the bottle of champagne Blair requested.

Jonesy: Haven't got any of those fancy flute jobs, so these'll have to do.
Blair: Well, Jonesy, you just put those mugs back on your tray because we are going to drink it right out of the bottle!

Jonesy takes the mugs and leaves as Blair grabs the bottle.

Blair: Todd? (taking a sip from the bottle and giggling) You don't mind sharing a bottle with me, do you?
Todd: Tell me something, Blair. Why'd you hold onto that key after I threw it out?
Blair: I don't know. Superstition, I guess. It's like finding a penny on the ground with the heads up.
Todd: So what? You think it's worth something?
Blair: Who knows, it might be. (she becomes amused) But did you see Dorian's face when she saw it?
Todd: That was weird. She was acting pretty weird the whole time we were there, though.
Blair: She was? I didn't notice.
Todd: You were too busy goo-goo-eyed over that check that she wrote out without even blinking an eye.
Blair: Yes, I was, but I don't know -- maybe she was tired. She said she wanted to go to bed or something.
Todd: She also said that those suitcases were for a charity auction.
Blair: Why? Don't you believe her?
Todd: (skeptical) Clothes for the needy in designer luggage? Your aunt was going some place, but it wasn't to bed.
Blair: What do you mean?
Todd: I don't know her that well, but she was definitely freaked about something. I mean, it was like she pushed us out the door because she wanted to make a run for it.
Blair: Huh. Well, what do you think she's running from?

--end scene--

When the scene returns, Blair's mood has dampened a bit as she is now looking at the check Dorian wrote her in a new light. Todd notices and tries to lighten things up again.

Todd: Come on, Blair, drink up. We're celebrating, remember? Come on, you made the break from Cord and his money -- found yourself a new investor.
Blair: (morosely) Yeah, it was too easy. Aunt Dorian wrote this check for $200,000 as if it were cab fare.
Todd: Yeah, so what?
Blair: Well, it was just weird. It's like you said -- she was anxious to get rid of us.
Todd: Well, maybe she had Joey Buchanan waiting for her in her bed upstairs.
Blair: No. She would've said so.
Todd: Or maybe she just found out she's getting audited. Who cares?
Blair: Look, you don't understand. I'm beginning to worry about her. When Dorian gets cornered, she does like she always does -- she runs.
Todd: Well, hey, let her run.
Blair: Oh, right. And who's going to be here to clean up the messes that she leaves behind? What if this check bounces? I am not being selfless here -- I am looking out for number one.
Todd: Well, it's a good thing, because you can bet that's exactly what Dorian's doing. (he sips his beer)

--end scene--

Todd: Well, here's to your new empire, Melador, courtesy of your aunt Dorian, wherever she is.
Blair: It bothers you that I care about her, doesn't it?
Todd: Hey, look, you want to waste your energy caring about some witch, Dorian?
Blair: Hey, just put a sock in it, all right? Because you are not half the cynic that you claim to be. I happen to know that you care about people, too.
Todd: Oh, yeah, three people at least -- me, myself, and I.
Blair: Yeah, right, and two other people: Sarah and CJ Roberts. They may be the best friends that you've got. Maybe the only.
Todd: I guess...if you don't count you.

Todd gives Blair a meaningful look and she averts her eyes, a little embarrassed.

Todd: That's why I don't want you to get hurt by Dorian or anybody else.
Blair: Look, if -- if you were worried about Cord --
Todd: No, I was, but then you wised up and dumped him before he dumped you. You keep that work up. Never give anybody an opening, Blair. You'll live longer.
Blair: Like you?
Todd: You could do worse.
Blair: Yeah, I guess I could. So, are you sure that you want to leave town?
Todd: Positive. Look, I'll -- I'll drop you a line when I get to Florida. Maybe I'll send you a box of grapefruit.
Blair: Right, and I'll check it for worms. So when are ya' leaving?
Todd: Well, I get my paycheck on Tuesday -- I figure by Wednesday I'll be sipping a pina colada on some beach.
Blair: Todd?
Todd: Yeah?
Blair: Did -- did you mean what you said before, that -- that you could count me as your friend?
Todd: Whatever that means. Why?
Blair: Well, I guess that I could count you as a friend, too. I mean, of all the people in this lousy town, there's only one person I even like.

Todd looks at Blair and waits for her to finish.

Blair: (teasingly) Yeah, YOU! The one and only. So come on, won't you reconsider and come work for me at Melador? I mean, look, I've even got all the financing now --
Todd: Look, Blair, that's your dream, not mine. Besides, I gotta find out who I am. Peter Manning's orders, remember? And I sure as hell ain't gonna be able to do that here.
Blair: Well, the least that you could do, Todd, is let me give you a goodbye present.
Todd: (suggestively) What, like the present you gave me for Christmas?
Blair: In your dreams. But it is a very special gift, though. So, you interested?

--end scene--

Before Todd can answer, Kevin and his friend Buddy approach the table.

Kevin: Well, what's up, Blair?
Blair: Hey, Kevin.
Kevin: Cord leaves you out of his sight for a minute and you take up with whatever comes along, huh?
Todd: Gee, Kev, it's good to see you, too.
Blair: Look, Kevin, you do not have to protect your big brother, all right? Because I dropped him like a bad habit.
Kevin: I'm glad to hear that -- for his sake. (to Buddy) Come on, Buddy, I think the air must be better over here....

Kevin and Buddy leave the table. Todd is disgusted.

Todd: What a sweetheart.
Blair: Yeah.
Todd: My God, and people wonder why I want to get out of this town? It's snobs like that -- my ex-frat brother.
Blair: Oh, don't even let him get to you.
Todd: What, you think he's getting to me? Just because he stood up for his cousin, Powell Lord III, who's certifiable, and all he shows ME is the back of his hand!
Blair: Well, it is so nice to know that you're not bitter. Tell you what, Todd, let's go back to my place. I'll give you that present that I promised you. Let's go.
Todd: All right.
Blair: I'll just pay the bill --

Todd and Blair get up and prepare to leave the bar when Todd sees Sam Vance talking to Jonesy at the bar. He ducks back down into his chair and pulls Blair with him before they are seen.

Todd: All right, sit down, sit down!
Blair: What??
Todd: All right, see that babe standing over there by the bar?
Blair: Who? (she turns)
Todd: Don't look!
Blair: Okay.
Todd: With the trenchcoat on. That's the one that -- she pretended to have the hots for me, all the while she just wanted some story for her sleazy magazine.
Blair: Okay, tell you what, you slip out the backdoor, I will pay the tab here, and I'll meet you back at my place.
Todd: Man, I owe you one.
Blair: See ya.

Sam is busy at the bar ordering a drink and asking Jonesy if she's seen David Vickers around. As she's doing that, Todd gets his jacket on and is almost out the door when, suddenly, Sam spots him.

Sam Vance: Todd?

Todd turns around to face her.

--end scene--

Sam Vance: Todd, um --
Todd: (coldly) I don't want anything to do with you. (he turns to leave)
Sam Vance: Hey, hey, hey, wait, listen, I --

Before Sam can go after Todd (who makes a quick exit), Blair "accidentally" spills her drink on Sam.

Blair: Oh, goodness, look at that! I got it all over your suit!
Sam Vance: It's okay.
Blair: It looks like it's very expensive! Let me just have your name, and I will get it dry cleaned!
Sam Vance: The suit is fine! It's okay --
Blair: Are you sure?
Sam Vance: I'm okay, everything is fine -- at least it was until you got here. Would you please excuse me, please?
Blair: Sure.

Sam brushes past Blair, who laughs and goes to the bar, where she hands Jonesy payment for the drinks she and Todd had.

Blair: Here you go, Jonesy! Here's for tonight's festivities. I hope that'll take care of everything.

As Blair is at the bar, Tina comes in and goes to talk to Kevin. Blair eavesdrops as Tina tells Kevin that the police have found Viki's car crashed on the side of the road, but Viki is missing. Tina goes on to explain that Viki was upset prior to the crash because she found out something "terrible" about David. (The audience knows that Tina is talking about David not being the real Lord heir after all, but as this isn't yet public knowledge, Blair doesn't know.) Kevin rushes out, but before Tina can leave she is stopped by Sam Vance, who demands that Tina put her in contact with David. Blair is still eavesdropping....

--end scene--

When the scene returns, Blair is listening in as Sam tells Tina that she is a private investigator whom David hired to find out some information for him, and now she wants to be paid. Sam leaves and Tina is left to wonder what that means. Back at the bar, Blair has put two and two together.

Blair: Whoa. Wait 'till Todd hears about this!

Blair quickly leaves Rodi's.
