T&B's First Wedding Night

Blair is waiting for Todd in their motel room. She just came back from a swim, and she's drying her wet hair, sitting on the bed and staring at her wedding ring. She has a flashback to a moment she shared with Cord, in which she told him she wanted to share her life with him. Back in the present, Todd interrupts the flashback when he returns to the room with a couple of fancy looking fruit drinks.

Todd: Hey.
Blair: Hey.
Todd: When you were swimming, your uh, husband was busy. I know you can't hit the hard stuff anymore, but we can load up on mixer and you can pretend, okay? (he hands the drink to her)
Blair: My wedding day. A fruit drink. What more can a girl ask for? (she takes a sip)
Todd: So you're not sorry that, um, we went through with it, huh?
Blair: Todd. Hey...

Blair takes his arm and gently pulls him down to sit on the bed next to her.

Blair: What do you think?
Todd: I guess this marriage stuff could grow on a guy.

Then, as if he's suddenly remembered one of the benefits of said marriage, Todd turns and kisses her. When they finish, Blair strokes his hair.

Blair: You know what I think? I think that my husband is due for some good luck. In more ways than one.

--end scene--

When the scene returns, Todd and Blair are on the bed making out. Suddenly Blair pulls away.

Blair: Uh, wait --
Todd: What?

Blair grabs a small bag from the bed and heads toward the bathroom.

Blair: Um, I'll be right back.
Todd: Look, if, um, this is about your makeup being smudged, I'm -- I'm far from caring. (noticing the bag) Cute bag, but if it's got birth control in it, why bother?
Blair: (looks down, says nothing)
Todd: Look, I'm not stupid enough to think that lightning doesn't strike twice, but you're already pregnant, right, Blair?

It's the first time since that night in Key West that Todd has had reason to question Blair's "pregnancy," and it catches Blair totally off-guard.

--end scene--

Todd gets out of bed and goes to stand beside Blair.

Todd: We're married. You're already pregnant. What's up?
Blair: (laughing) Todd, of course it's too late for birth control. But it's my wedding night -- evening. Well, afternoon. I don't know, I just -- I wanted to look better.
Todd: Than what? You look fine. Come on.

Todd takes the bag from Blair and tosses it on the floor. He sits on the bed, facing her. She walks over toward him, and he slowly takes off her robe, first one shoulder, then the other. Blair sighs a little nervously then nods slightly for Todd to continue.

--end scene--

When the scene returns, Todd and Blair are in bed, basking in the afterglow. Blair is playing nervously with her wedding ring, and Todd is lost in thought.

Todd: A couple of days ago, if anybody asked me where I'd be in a couple of days, I never in a million years would have said, "Married and a kid on the way." Look who I married -- She-Wolf of Llanview.
Blair: Oh, excuse me, pardon me, but who are you, Ghandi??
Todd: Look, I know that -- that none of this turned out the way either of us planned it. But, look, I -- I wanna tell you that -- you can count on me. I'm going to do everything I can for you, and the kid, and us. Everything.

At that, Blair starts to get out of bed.

Todd: Where you goin'?
Blair: (slipping on her robe) Llanview. There is a flight leaving soon and -- I have a bunch of meetings set up tomorrow. Melador business. And I need to get back for that.
Todd: That's too bad. It's so cold up there. It's nice and warm down here in Key West. I don't have a job to go back to. Why don't you stay down here? We'll be beach bums together till the baby's born.
Blair: Todd, that is a very nice thought. Not very practical. But a nice thought. Look, I -- I got to follow through on this. This has been a dream of mine for a long time. (with sudden realization) But, hey, you know, don't get me wrong, now. If this is your dream -- to stay down here in Key West and be a beach bum, fine. I mean, no problem -- that's cool. In fact, maybe you should stay down here, um, until after the baby's born.

Nice try, Blair, but Todd's not going for that.

Todd: No, look, if we're going to do this family thing, we should do it right. I'll follow you back up to Llanview. We'll -- (he stops talking suddenly)
Blair: What's the matter?
Todd: Nothing. I mean, I was just thinking that, you know, we gotta live some place, and I can't take you back to Motel Hell. I -- guess we'll just have to stay at your aunt's penthouse.

The thought doesn't seem to thrill Todd, and even Blair looks taken aback at the reminder that their options for a place to live will be quite limited until Todd learns about his trust fund.

Blair: (sighing) I hadn't, uh, thought about that.
Todd: Look, I'm just trying to think of things practically, you know, that's all.
Blair: Todd, look, don't worry. There's -- there's plenty of time.
Todd: I'm just trying to figure out how we're going to make ends meet until your business gets off the ground. I mean, I'm used to living poor, but I can't put you and the kid through that.
Blair: Don't worry, Todd, about the money. The money will come through somehow. I have faith.
