T&B Get Married On The Beach In Key West

It's time for Todd and Blair's wedding. They're standing together on the beach, along with three other people (the judge, a woman who is apparently his wife, and a man holding a metal detector). Todd's in a white jacket and slacks; Blair is in a pretty white knit top and matching pants. A tropical flower is tucked behind her ear. She stares out at the ocean as Todd comes up behind her.

Todd: I'm sorry this couldn't be in a church.
Blair: Todd, the beach is beautiful.
Todd: So are you.

Blair gives Todd a skeptical look.

Todd: What? Look, it's the truth. I told you I'd never lie to you.
Joel: Uh, I hate to push, but I got a coroner's inquest at 3PM.
Joel's Wife: (proudly) Joel does autopsies as well as weddings.
Joel: Bride on the right, groom on the left.
Todd: Why does that matter?
Joel: You want the sun in her eyes?

Todd and Blair go ahead and switch positions so that Blair is on the right. Blair then looks curiously at the man holding the metal detector.

Blair: Um, excuse me, but what is he doing here? Who is this?
Joel: Well, you need two witnesses. Introduce yourself, Tink.
Tink: Oh, Tink Sheedy! Could we move it along? When the tide's out, you can find all kinds of change.
Todd: (irritated) Look, this is the lady's wedding day. I want this done right.
Joel: Okay, we ready then?
Blair: Well, Todd, speak now or forever hold your peace.
Todd: I'm ready. You?

Blair takes Todd's arm in hers.

Blair: Ready.
Joel: Dearly beloved. We are gathered together in the sight of God and these witnesses to join this man and this woman in holy matrimony....

When the scene returns, the ceremony is nearly over.

Joel: Therefore, by the power vested in me by the state of Florida, I now pronounce you husband and wife. (suggestively, to Todd) This is Key West, man. Don't be shy.

Todd looks at Blair and then moves forward and kisses her. Afterward, he seems a little self-conscious.

Todd: Well.
Blair: (laughing) We did it! Whoo! How do you feel?
Todd: Same. Only weirder.
Joel: Congratulations.

Joel holds his hand out and Todd shakes it.

Todd: Oh, yeah, thanks, it was a real nice ceremony. Thank you.
Joel: That's what I'm here for.
Todd: Good.
Joel: (not letting go of Todd's hand) That's what I'm here for.

Todd finally gets the hint.

Todd: Oh, yeah, I'm sorry. (he reaches into his pocket for his wallet) This is my first wedding -- or marriage, whatever. (he takes some bills out and hands them to Joel) Uh, here you go.

Joel: You guys want to know the secret to a long, successful marriage? (to his wife) Tell 'em, babe.
Joel's Wife: Generosity!

She snatches the money from Joel's hand and walks off, with Joel trailing after her.

Todd: Yeah, that guy gets the corpses to tip him at an autopsy.
Blair: Come on, let's go.

But there's still the little matter of Tink, who stands blocking their way when they try to leave.

Tink: If I'd spent time combing the beach, I'd have found fifty bucks in change!
Todd: Fifty bucks? You too?
Blair: Look, hey... (she hands Tink some of her own cash) It's a bargain.
Tink: Good luck, y'all!
Blair: Thank you.

Tink turns and leaves.

Todd: "A bargain"? He just robbed you!
Blair: Todd, you heard what the missus said. The key to a long, successful marriage is generosity. So come on, let's go -- let's go. It's our wedding night. Let's go celebrate. Okay?
Todd: You better make it burger and fries, something like that.
Blair: No way! My treat. Let's -- let's have something nice. Come on -- let's go.
Todd: Blair, look, I'm tired of taking your money.
Blair: We're married. What is mine is yours and vice versa, right?
Todd: (glumly) I'm afraid you get the short end of that deal.
Blair: I don't know about that.

Blair playfully tucks his hair behind his ears and smooths his white jacket.

Blair: As far as husbands go, you're not half bad, Mr. Manning. (taking his hand) So come on -- let's go! I'm starving! I think it's this pregnancy.

But Todd remains standing in place.

Todd: Look, Blair, before you go --
Blair: What?
Todd: There's -- there's something you need to know about the baby.

--end scene--

Todd: Whatever I've got, it's yours. And the kid's. I want him to have everything. Or her, whatever. I'll tell you this much. Whatever it is, this kid's going to know that he's loved and -- he's wanted.
Blair: (emotionally) I know.
Todd: I mean, this isn't Romeo and Juliet or anything, but, I mean -- you can count on me. You can trust me, like I trust you. You're the first woman that I've ever been myself with. Hey, I -- I had to get married, I guess, so I'm glad it turned out to be you.

Blair takes Todd's hand in hers and they share a meaningful look.
