Todd Confronts Blair About The Inheritance

Tina has just left T&B's penthouse after filling Todd's head with doubts about Blair's motivations for marrying him and even about her pregnancy claim. Now Blair is left to try to figure out how to ease his mind.

Blair: Todd, look, I -- I don't even know what she said to you, but --
Todd: I want a straight answer, Blair. You owe me that much. How long have you known about my inheritance?

--end scene--

When the scene returns, Todd has told Blair that Tina told him the money he stands to inherit from Victor Lord totals 27.8 million dollars.

Blair: (in joyous disbelief) 27 million dollars??
Todd: 27.8.
Blair: Oh, Todd, that is almost too much to take in!
Todd: (quietly) Almost.
Blair: You know, I was expecting a token amount -- crumbs, courtesy of Victor Lord, but this -- 27.8! This is too much! Oh, my God! Do you know what this means to our baby, Todd? And for you! I mean, you can do anything, be anything! No more tennis lessons, no more odd jobs! Oh, my God, Todd, you are a millionaire!
Todd: You still haven't answered my question. How long have you known that I was getting this money?
Blair: Oh, Todd, I -- I told you, remember? When I found you in the bar, and I told you that Tina had stopped by and told --

Blair breaks off in realization.

Blair: Oh. Oh, yeah, I get it now. Tina told you that I knew about the inheritance for a long time, right? And being the witch that I am, I tricked you into marrying me, right?
Todd: The same way you tricked Asa when you were married to him.
Blair: Todd! I told you about that a long time ago already! Don't -- don't you know what it's like to be hated? How it feels when everyone in this town thinks that you're a liar? I thought that that was something that we shared, Todd. Look at me.

But Todd refuses to look at her.

Blair: You're -- you're gonna believe someone like Tina over me? Your own wife?

Now Todd turns toward her -- and he doesn't look happy.

--end scene--

Todd: We've always been honest with each other, Blair.
Blair: Absolutely, Todd! Which is why --
Todd: Tina can say what she wants. I won't believe her over you.

Blair, relieved, goes to hug him from the back, and though he awkwardly shrugs away from her, she pretends not to notice.

Blair: Todd, I knew that you wouldn't! I mean, we've got something that money can't buy. We've got trust!
Todd: Nothin' wrong with money.
Blair: No, certainly isn't! I mean, 28 million dollars -- how do you even celebrate something like that?
Todd: I don't know -- you tell me. I mean, I'm still in shock.

It's obvious here that Todd is still moody and suspicious of Blair, but just as she ignored the way he shrugged out of her hug, she is determined to ignore this, too.

Blair: (quickly) Oh, me too! It's something new to me, too. I guess I'll just have to learn to get used to it. Oh, gosh, I -- I'm going to stop by -- um, I need to run and stop by St. Anne's to check on Mother's bill. But I tell you what -- I'll pick up dinner on the way home. How's that?
Todd: You don't have to cook for me.
Blair: Oh, but I want to cook for my husband! You know, it's the funniest thing, Todd, I don't even know -- what's your favorite? Do you like steak or chicken? I'm a very, very good cook.
Todd: Whatever you make, I'll like. It'll be fine.

Todd heads toward the door.

Todd: I think I'm gonna go, uh -- I'm gonna go see that lawyer that Nora recommended. Figure out how I'm going to get my hands on this cash.

Blair follows after Todd before he leaves.

Blair: You know, Todd, it's so great that things can turn around so quickly. I know that this is gonna work out. We can do this together -- I know we can.

Blair touches his arm, and when he speaks again, his voice cracks a little, betraying some emotion.

Todd: Okay.

Todd goes out the door, but after it closes he stands at it for a few moments, thinking. Then he walks away.

--end scene--

Blair is getting ready to go see Addie at St. Anne's, but before she leaves, she puts a bottle of champagne on ice in preparation for dinner that night.

Blair: (to the champagne) Well, I was saving you for a special occasion. I guess this will do! So when Todd and I get back, you will be ready!

Blair heads out the door, but stops to admire herself in the mirror.

Blair: Well, well...congratulations, Mrs. Manning. Or should I say, Mrs. Lord?

She laughs happily and air kisses her reflection.
