Todd Gives Blair His Mother's Ring

The scene opens on a cheap looking Key West motel room. Blair is passed out on the bed, but Todd, on the bed next to her, is awake. He gingerly tries to get up without waking Blair, but he ends up knocking an empty vodka bottle to the floor. The clatter stirs Blair awake as Todd quickly tries to pick up the bottle.

Todd: Sorry -- okay. Blair: (groggily) Is it -- is it morning yet?
Todd: Used to be. Hi. (he wipes his mouth)
Blair: Hi. I can't believe that you're up. You hit the vodka pretty hard last night.
Todd: Yeah, well, I was drinking for both of us. You're pregnant.

While Todd obviously doesn't mean it to be a reminder, Blair seems to need it.

Blair: Right.
Todd: I mean, that's why we're here. In this charming Key West honeymoon suite. Give this kid a proper family -- a mom, a dad, the whole schmear. Today's our wedding day. That is if --
Blair: -- you still want to.

Blair is still in bed, rubbing her head and lost in thought when Todd comes out of the bathroom -- he's changed into white slacks and a tight blue t-shirt. Blair sees that he's holding something in his hand.

Blair: Whatcha got?

Todd hands it to her -- it's a ring. Blair studies it as Todd sits back down on the bed next to her.

Todd: That was my mother's. I was saving it for -- well, you know.

Blair looks both touched and guilty at the gesture. Todd, of course, takes her silence for skepticism.

Todd: The diamond's real, if that's what you're --
Blair: I know. I know. It's a beautiful ring, Todd. Thank you.
Todd: So, I was thinking about this ceremony, you know? We can't afford a hall, and I'm not much for churches, so I was thinking maybe the justice of the peace could just -- marry us on the beach, you know, where you told me about the baby.
Blair: I think the beach would be a perfect place, and this is the perfect ring. It'll double as an engagement ring and a wedding ring.
Todd: All of this is far from perfect. But -- I want you to know that I'm -- gonna do everything I can to try and make this work. I know I can't give you -- any money or a fancy name or even a name that anybody respects, but -- we can give this kid a family.
Blair: Don't be getting sentimental on me, Todd.
Todd: I mean, we wouldn't be getting married if it weren't for the kid. But there's something between us. I mean, we're always honest.

Blair shoots Todd another guilty look that he doesn't pick up on.

Blair: You know, I really wish you wouldn't --
Todd: I mean, you could have lied. Told Cord that it was his kid and married him. But you didn't. You threw away the Buchanan name and the money and all that goes with that because you wanted to tell the truth. And I'll always respect you for that.

Blair continues to look guilty, but she stays silent. There's no turning back now....
