Blair Tells Addie She's Really Pregnant

Blair has come to Addie, and she's brought a beautiful bunch of flowers, which Addie is now admiring.

Blair: I have wonderful news, Mama!
Addie: (too caught up in the flowers to answer Blair)
Blair: Mother?
Addie: "Wonderful news" -- I heard what you said. (gasping in happy, hopeful surprise) Have you made up with that nice man, Cord?
Blair: No, no, Mother...I'm -- I'm married to Todd now. Remember?
Addie: (goes back to looking at the flowers) Yes, I remember.

Blair is now sitting next to Addie on the bench.

Blair: And Mama? Mama -- we're gonna have a baby!
Addie: (whispering to Blair) But you're not pregnant.
Blair: Yes, no, Mama, I am pregnant.
Addie: But -- but you're not having a baby. And -- and you don't love Todd, and you love Cord, and he loves you!
Blair: No, Mama. Cord doesn't love me. Now, I want you to pay attention, all right? I am really pregnant, and I am really having Todd's baby.
Addie: But you said that --
Blair: But see, we found out last night. What I was worried about is that Todd would find out that I lied, but see -- now I don't have to! (laughing) And I am so happy!
Addie: But do you love Todd?

Blair pauses as she considers how she will answer that question. Finally she replies.

Blair: I care about Todd, Mama. But, no, I don't -- I don't love him.
Addie: (sadly) What about the baby?
Blair: Well, Mama, Todd -- Todd really wants to make a good home for me and our baby. And Todd and I will both love the baby. And we'll never have to worry about money. So, Mama, you just be happy. Okay? You know what? You're gonna be a grandma! (Blair hugs Addie happily) Can you believe it? It's just gonna be perfect.
Addie: I hope so, Blair.

Blair touches Addie's face tenderly, while Addie stares sadly at the flowers.
