Cord is Surprised to Learn that Blair is Friends With Todd

Blair meets with Cord at the country club. She rushes over to his table and gives him a quick kiss on the cheek.

Blair: Hi! I'm sorry that I'm late.
Cord: Hey, you're here, that's all that matters. Please, sit.

Cord notices that Blair is anxious about something.

Cord: Blair, are you okay?
Blair: Yeah, sure. (she sits down) Um, I've been a very busy girl today.
Cord: Oh?
Blair: Not what you think -- I haven't gotten myself into any trouble. Actually, I've tried to help someone out of it.
Cord: And were you able to help this someone?
Blair: I don't think so, and now he's going to pay for something that he didn't do, and it's unfair.
Cord: You sound pretty intent on helping this someone -- do I know who he is?
Blair: Mm-hmm.
Cord: Who is the guy?
Blair: Todd Manning.
Cord: Todd? Isn't he in jail?
Blair: He's in jail for the attempted rape of Rebecca Lewis, and I was just with him an hour ago.
Cord: You went to see Todd in jail?
Blair: Well, I didn't plan on it -- the police called me in for questioning.
Cord: Look, Blair, Todd is guilty of these crimes....
Blair: Look, I had to find out for myself, Cord. Todd told me that he would never hurt Rebecca because she is the only woman he's ever loved, and I believe him, and I -- I feel sorry for him.
Cord: Blair --
Blair: Look, he has made some mistakes, I know that, and he's hurt a lot of people -- I know that too, but that doesn't mean that this time he's guilty. He might be innocent.

Cord sees where this is going.

Cord: Todd Manning isn't the only one you're talking about here, is he?
Blair: (sheepishly) I guess not.
Cord: Listen, I can understand you wanting to feel so sympathetic towards him, but you really shouldn't compare yourself to him because there is no comparison.
Blair: We are not all that different.
Cord: (sighs)
Blair: Cord, we're not. Except for one thing -- Todd doesn't have anyone who believes in him like I do. I have you.

Blair takes Cord's hand and clasps it affectionately.
