HISTORY

Note: This history (which has been cobbled together from the character's official ABC.com biographies) covers the years that Victor Lord, Jr. was believed to be Todd Manning. Because the show was treating the character as "Todd" at the time, he is referred to by that name, rather than by the name "Victor," in this history.

"Walker Laurence" (2003)

In 2003, Blair's ex-husband Todd went missing without a trace. The last place he was known to be alive was the Lord crypt, where he'd been buried alive by evil cult leader Mitch Laurence. Mitch refused to tell Blair where Todd was, or what had happened to him.

A few weeks later, a mysterious man claiming to be Walker Laurence (Mitch's younger brother) came to Llanview. He wasted no time in introducing himself to Blair, and when she filled him in on Mitch's various crimes against her family, he vowed to help protect her and her children from Mitch. He also worked to protect Jessica Buchanan (Todd's beloved niece and Mitch's biological daughter). Blair found herself drawn to Walker for reasons she couldn't fully explain. She gave him a job at The Sun and allowed him to live in Todd's penthouse. When Mitch turned up dead and Blair was the main suspect, Walker helped clear her name. This spurred her to start falling in love with him.

Starr, however, was not a Walker fan, as she saw that he was clearly trying to take the place of her father. Walker tried to placate her fears by alleging that while Todd was alive, he was hidden somewhere and needed him (Walker) to stay in Llanview to protect his loved ones. Starr grudgingly accepted this until the day she found Walker and Blair in a compromising position at the penthouse. She flew into a rage, and Walker let her in on a secret -- he was the real Todd, with plastic surgery. Starr remained suspicious as he explained that he'd been hurt so badly by Mitch's thugs that he'd required surgery, and that this was all part of one of his elaborate plans. Finally, when she asked him a series of questions that only Todd would know, she accepted the story and believed him to be the real Todd. She also eagerly agreed to help him win Blair's heart all over again.

Blair went back and forth in her relationship with "Walker." On the one hand, she had very strong feelings for him. On the other hand, she was still hopelessly in love with Todd, and some part of her refused to believe that he was really dead. In time, "Walker" worked to convince her that she needed to move on, and they got married in a small ceremony at Dorian's house. Before the wedding, "Walker" confessed his true identity to Viki, who urged him to tell Blair the truth. But he refused to listen, out of fear that if Blair knew what he'd done, she would leave him for good.

The Rape Trial (2004)

Of course, it was only a matter of time before Blair discovered the truth on her own. Shocked that Todd would stoop to such a low, she immediately began calculating a revenge scheme -- making Todd jealous by sleeping with his old rival, Kevin Buchanan (who also happened to be married to her cousin Kelly). A furious Todd confronted her, and the two had a sexual encounter at Dorian's house. Afterward, Blair claimed that Todd had raped her, while Todd maintained that the sex was "rough," but consensual. Blair had Todd arrested and their marriage was annulled. Todd was brought to trial and found guilt. The verdict crushed Starr, who vowed to hate her mother forever.

Soon after the trial, Blair, who had been suffering from terrible head pain, collapsed. She was diagnosed with a specific type of brain tumor -- one that can alter perception and cause mental confusion. After the tumor was successfully removed, Blair began to wonder whether her memories of the encounter with Todd were accurate. Had it really been rape? Blair had an emotional conversation with Viki at Victor Lord's tomb (the last place Blair had seen the "old" Todd alive), and Blair began to realize that she'd turned her knowledge of Todd's "mental rapes" against her into a physical rape in her mind. She later admitted to Todd that the sex had been consensual. Todd considered it a victory, and a step toward a reunion, but Blair stressed to him that they had no future together. Todd, however, refused to give up hope.

Mannings VS ...Well, Everyone (2004)

Todd alternated between revenge against Kevin and multiple attempts to romance Blair. But both of these plans were put on hold when Starr was kidnapped while on vacation with Blair in New York City. As Todd and Blair worked together to get her back, they grew close enough that a reunion started to seem possible. Once Starr was home safe and sound, Blair admitted to Todd that she was open to a reunion, but that it would have to be taken slowly. They started to spend more time together. One night, during a destructive fire in Angel Square, Todd (trying to rescue Starr and her then-boyfriend Travis) was knocked out by a falling beam. Blair ran in after him and rescued him from the flames. Afterward, they made love in the penthouse. In the afterglow, Blair agreed to move back in with him.

Even though Todd and Blair were now reunited, problems continued to plague the couple. One of these problems was deranged Buchanan Enterprises employee Margaret Cochran. Todd had previously flirted with Margaret in an attempt to get dirt on her boss, Kevin. When Todd reunited with Blair, Margaret was left feeling rejected and, for a time, tried to convince Blair that she and Todd were having a secret affair. Unfortunately for Margaret, Blair didn't believe any of her stories.

Another problem for Todd and Blair manifested itself in the form of Blair's cousin, Kelly. While out of town and away from her husband, Kevin, Kelly had miscarried their unborn son. Frantic with worry that she would lose Kevin if he found out their baby was gone, Kelly begged her brother, Paul Cramer, to obtain a replacement baby for her -- which Paul did (taking a newborn from nearby Pine Valley). Todd had found out about the kidnapping while he was still estranged from Blair, but agreed to keep the secret for Kelly so she could pass the baby off as Kevin's child.

The secret, however, became a thorn in Todd's side once he and Blair were reunited. With Kelly's lies spiraling out of control and her marriage to Kevin crumbling, Kelly named Todd as the "real" father of "her" baby in an attempt to keep custody in the event of her divorce from Kevin. Todd, disgusted with this turn of events, filled Blair in on everything that was going on. Blair confronted Kelly but eventually agreed to keep the secret about the baby's Pine Valley origins -- which meant going along with the lie that Todd was the baby's father.

Kelly's paternity lie had another unintended consequence: crazy Margaret heard the news about Todd's "son" and kidnapped the baby, as she delusionally believed that he was her son with Todd. The baby was eventually rescued, and Margaret was committed to St. Anne's mental hospital. Blair, at this point beyond frustrated with what Kelly's lie was doing to her family (Starr was now being teased at school about her supposedly illegitimate "brother"), threatened to tell the truth once and for all. This prompted Todd to step in and tell Kevin himself. Finally, Todd and Blair were free of the baby lie.

Now, Todd and Blair turned their attention to a new goal -- gaining respectability in Llanview for themselves and their children. To do this, they planned to move into the most coveted home in town: Asa Buchanan's mansion. Todd and Blair poured over old legal documents from Blair and Asa's long-ago divorce and Todd discovered a clerical error that gave Blair legal ownership of Asa's land. What followed was a long, drawn-out legal battle with Asa and the other Buchanans, involving lots of moving-in, moving-out, and shot-guns. In the end, Todd and Blair gave up on getting the mansion.

"Misery" (2004-2005)

After all of the drama from the summer and fall, Todd and Blair turned their attention toward their upcoming wedding. Little did they know that more drama was on the way in the form of crazy Margaret, who had recently been released from St. Anne's...with her Todd obsession still intact. She waited until just before T&B's wedding ceremony, and then she kidnapped Todd, shot him, and brought him to a remote cabin up in the mountains. There, she informed him that she wanted him to get her pregnant with his child. Todd, of course, refused. So Margaret kept him tied to a bed for weeks as she came up with new ways to try and seduce him. Todd tried to escape from the cabin several times, but she caught him every time.

Back in Llanview, Blair's search for Todd went on for weeks. While at first she'd been hurt at the "jilting," she eventually came to believe that something sinister had happened to Todd. Shortly after she realized that Margaret had Todd trapped up in the mountains, Margaret kidnapped her as well and trapped her in the trunk of a car in a deserted Llanview parking garage. Margaret then returned to Todd and informed him that Blair would die unless he impregnated her. Todd, left with no choice, agreed, and Margaret raped him while he was still tied to the bed. Afterward, Margaret skipped town (after secretly taking a pregnancy test that turned up positive) and Todd finally managed to escape from the cabin; once he made it back to town he headed up a search for Blair, who was still missing and presumed dead.

As it turned out, the car that Blair was trapped in had been taken to a junkyard, where it was set to be crushed by the car-crusher. Blair managed to escape from the trunk just in time, but was too weak to leave the junkyard on her own. A homeless man picked her up and notified Asa Buchanan (who, in an effort to appear "nice," had put out a reward for Blair's safe return). When Asa went out to collect the unconcious Blair, he started to remember all of the horrible things she'd done to him over the years. So instead of taking her back to Todd and her children, he imprisoned her in a mental institution. Eventually, Todd became suspicious of Asa and he tracked Blair to the hospital. Blair was overjoyed to see him (she thought that Margaret had killed him); they reunited and went home.

Todd and Blair tried to get back to normal, but one secret remained between them: Todd refused to tell Blair that Margaret had raped him in the cabin. While Todd tried to act like everything was normal, Blair could tell that something was wrong. Eventually, she got Todd to admit the truth and she vowed to help him through it. Todd also assured a worried Blair that there was no way Margaret could have become pregnant from the rape.

Spencer Truman and the Return of Margaret (2005-2006)

A new doctor, Spencer Truman, moved to town just in time to save Todd and Blair's son Jack from a medical crisis that required an emergency tracheotomy. While Blair was thankful, Todd was distrustful, and he and Spencer developed a tense relationship based on Todd's (as it turned out, accurate) suspicion that Spencer had his mind set on winning Blair over.

But the new troubles were just beginning. Asa secretly brought Margaret back to town and when Todd confronted her, he discovered that she was pregnant. The two argued, and when Todd tried to strangle her, she stabbed him and then escaped. Spencer turned up shortly afterward and saved Todd's life. He also agreed to keep the secret of Margaret's pregnancy in order to protect Blair while Todd went to try to find Margraet and deal with her once and for all.

Margaret stepped up her attacks on the Mannings by attempting to kill Starr. Blair learned that Margaret was back (but not that Margaret was pregnant) and Todd became increasingly worried about Blair's own mental stability. So he decided to take drastic action. He lured Margaret out on a rowboat in the middle of a deserted lake with the intention of killing her. The two argued, and some time later, a soaking wet Todd emerged from the lake, alone. Weeks later, the body of a pregnant woman was discovered in the lake. It was identified as Margaret and Todd, identified as the sole suspect in her murder, was arrested. Todd swore his innocence to Blair, and while she was furious to learn about Todd's knowledge of Margaret's pregnancy, she agreed to stand by him.

During the trial, Spencer began to manipulate Blair into believing that Todd had lied to her about his innocence. He even set up a converstaion to make it look like Todd had admitted his guilt. Blair, disgusted, ended her relationship with Todd and she and Spencer became lovers. (What she didn't realize, however, was that not only was Spencer working hard to frame Todd for Margaret's murder, but that Margaret was alive and suffering from amnesia in an undisclosed location.) Todd frantically tried to re-convince Blair of his innocence, and even voiced his suspicion that Spencer was framing him for the sole purpose of winning Blair away from Todd. Unfortunately, in spite of the efforts of Todd's lawyer, Evangeline Williamson, Todd was found guilty and sentenced to death by lethal injection.
